Face plates measure 1 1/16" x 7 5/8" Large mortise box measures 3 3/4" x 5 3/8" x 1/2" Small mortise box measures 1 7/8" x 5 3/8" x 9/16" thick. This antique mortise lock set is in the Aesthetic style. The back plates are 5.25' x 1.75' The plates are steel. The knobs are black porcelain. The only marked part is the box which is marked Skilman. The plates are bare steel with no finish. The box comes with a functional key. The lock faceplate is 7/8' x 5 1/2' The box may be opened and the catch bolt can be reversed for doors that swing the other way. The spindle also comes with the set screws, everything shown in the first photo is included. Circa 1890 or earlier, a nice antique set. If there are questions please ask them early. I purchased a group of assorted old doorknob backplates to get the one I needed for a house I am renovating. I am now offering some of those I don't need for your consideration. I believe this plate would have been used on the outside of the front entry door- possib ly exposed to the weather. Plate B measures 7" high ... morex 2 1/4" wide. It is plated steel- the plating appears to be an' antique brass' color. It is similar in design to plate A. But not an exact match. The previous owner"cleaned" these two plates with steel wool, so there are scratches evident. And some finish loss. Plate C measures 7 1/4" high x 2 3/8" wide. It has not been cleaned at all. And is mostly covered with old white paint. It is also plated steel. I believe the color may also be' antique brass' But I can't tell with the paint. It is. Again, a similar design to the other two plates, but not an exact match to either. I received plates A and B as you see them- I do NOT have any knobs or screws to go with them- sorry. The 4 screws that were holding plate C to a door are includ ed, but there were no knobs on the door. This auction is for only these T HREE door back plates. This set fits doors that are not pre-bored. The Rice pattern was made by Yale and Towne of Stamford Connecticut around 1885. We collected originals. Tested the bronze content, and cast in the finest sand to capture the finest details. The lock box measures 4 x 3 x 1 inches The face of the lock measures 5 1/2 x 7/8 x 1/8 inches. The center of the round part of the key hole to the center of the hub for the doorknob is a standard 2 ¼ inches. The back set of the lock is 2 3/8 inches. The back plates measure X x X the doorknobs are 2 ¼ inches in diameter and have detailing also on theie reverse side. Two Sets of Antique Door Knobs w Back Plates-Mortise Lock Porcelain-Wrought Iron
No Reserve and ready to sell this old box of assorted antique doorknobs and hardware that I found tucked away on top of a rafter inside of a garage that is being torn down. The bidding is for all contents inside the box which includes two sets of doorknobs. Two back plates and one copper finish cover plate that has swirls and three small flowers. The first set of knobs are black porcelain and the other set seems to be a mismatch of sorts, one knob has a scallops and a leaf motif in dark wrought iron finish which is also m agnetic. The other knob is antique brass with ribbed sides and smooth top resembling a sun or sunflower. The back plates have been cleaned; they were completely covered in thick enamel paint that had chipped off. Both have skeleton key holes. But no keys were found inside the box. The locking latch box is working and the ... morelatch that keeps the door closed does move back and forth when you turn the knobs. The dead bolt goes out and stays out until the inside mechanism raises to release without sticking. Tested without a key so no guarantees that it will work each time. This was probably made by the Reading hardware Co. because I bought a few boxes of hardware years ago that was all RHC hardware and this was in one of the boxes. This is solid brass and is very well made. This can be used on the right or left jam. Its 3 ½” x 7/8” wide not including the tongue. The openings are ¾” x 9/16” wide each and 1 1/16” x ... more½” and the center to center of the screw holes are about 2 7/8” Sorry no screws come with this. Circ. 1940s-1950s. Rare and very high qualtiy Antique P. F. Corbin Solid Cast Bronze Entry Door Mortise Lock Latch in excellent condition circa 1888(or 1883) This latch is for a left hand door and is not reversible. Corbin is on mortise box and P. F. Corbin 1888 or 1883 is stamped on the face of the lock bolt. HARVARD is stamped on the top edge of the latch face. High quality machining and function. Complete except for key and in perfect working condition. Has two large high quality cylinder locks. Latch face measures 1 5/16" x 8 5/16" Mortise box measures 4 1/16" deep. 5 7/8" tall and 15/16" thick. Uses a 1/4" spindle. Distance from center of cylinder opening to center of spindle opening is 4" High end cylinger locks are 1 11/16" in diameter across face. Cylinder opening is 1 1/2" in diameter. Antique / Vintage Mortise Style Door Lock Set w/Hardware.....Lot # 55
The item for auction is an Antique/ Vintage Mortise style door lock set with hardware. The items were meticulously& painstakingly cleaned. Restored and refinish in an attempt to bring out their original appearance, make it functional again and to preserve it for future use. When acquired, several of the items were layered in paint and the door knobs were full of grime and tarnished very bad. The lock mechanism would not even operate properly. The set is fully functional now. Included in this lot are a set of very ornate Oval shaped solid brass door knobs with spindle including the set screws. The brass tone is slightly different when comparing the two side by side but, they are identical in pattern, size, weight and both are solid Brass. A Mortise style lock mechanism with mounting screws and working key. A pair of Brass plated escutcheons ... morewith mounting screws and the Brass plated catch plate also including mounting screws. All items in this lot are authentic and not reproductions. Great craftsmanship and materials from long ago that has stood the test of time and the elements. Lock mechanism measures 3 1/16" in depth x 3 3/4" high x 1/2" thick- face plate attached measures 5 5/8" high x 1 15/16" wide x 3/16" thick Add this attractive and vintage door lock set from the past to a current collection or display the item to create or enhance a particular decorating project or theme. The items can also be used to replace defective hardware currently in use. Please note. Most all oils and other lubricates were removed during restoration process so, if intent is to use the item and not for display purposes, it will need to be lubricated.
