South Bend 1201 Anti Backlash Reel with Original Box Plus Extras
Here is a South Bend No. 1201 Level Winding Anti Backlash reel. It comes with the original box. Instruction sheet and South Bend Black Oreno line card. The reel appears to have been fished and is in good working condition with a strong clicker. I'm not sure the leather bag, with a split seam, is original. The box has some edge ware but is very solid. This reel will clean up very nice. Attached are several pictures for your review and apologize for the camera flash. You are bidding on a vintage South Bend 1131-A baitcast reel. The reel stamped with a Patent date of Sept 5.05. and Feb 5.07. and a serial number of 12236. This reel is in good mechanical condition. The reel spins smoothly but would probably benefit from an internal cleaning. The clicker works very well. The jewell on the handle side is in good condition while the jewell on the left side has some scratches and is not as bright. There are several scratches and some minor chrome loss to the left sideplate as seen in the pictures. I will always combine shipping for multiple purchases. For auction I have an old vintage south bend anti-backlash reel. I am unclear on the model, on the reel it reads 90C, so I researched it and found this out from south bend sporting goods website, The current South Bend company purchased the name only from the Gladding Corporation in 1980 I can suggest you contact Historical Fishing Display. So I called and got an email address and sent the guy some pics and this is what he wrote Got the info from the author of the book on South Bend reels. It was down in the body of his write up on the 900 model. A large number of the 900 reels were stamped lightly on the last 0 and look like 90C. They are 900 models quite common. he also wrote in another email Many early reels had no level wind mechanism Anglers used their thumb and finger to apply the line smoothly on the reel. The Orginal! ABU GARCIA- Ambassadeur 5600 AB(Anti-Backlash System) This item is in very Good clean Condition Never Used We finally have a true no backlash reel. Ambassadeur's new 5600 AB and 6600 AB are truly anti-backlash. These reels are equipped with a brake bar above the thumb bar, the line is threaded thru the brake bar then thru the traditional line mechanism. Once you've casted the line, the brake bar will activate as soon as any slack line is felt, preventing backlash. The 5600 AB and the 6600 AB are also available in left-hand retrieve. Model 5601AB(left-hand) is available now and the 6601AB will be available in your local tackle store in September, just in time for the fall Coho and Chinook fisheries. For those of you familiar with ambassedeur reels the 5600 AB is the same size as ambassedeurs 5600 C3 and the 6600AB has ... morethe same line capacity as the 6500 C3. There are several advantages other then the anti-backlash features that are worth mentioning. You can use these reels as spinning reels and casting reels. Your probably wondering what's the difference between these two uses. A spinning reel is primarily used for cast and retrieve method. Hard overhead casts are the norm. Most levelwind reels will backlash when the hard overhead casts are made. The AB series will act the same as a spinning reel and stop the line as soon as the weight hits the water. If your preference is float fishing, you can cast with the anti-backlash system turned on then just turn it off when your ready to free spool. You can also bypass the Anti- backlash system altogether and just use it the same as a 5600 or 6500 C3. You are bidding on a Lew Childre Baitcasting FISHING REEL. The shiny places in the pictures are glare from the lights. In lightly used condition. Not used much. The only thing wrong is the decal around the control wheel has a few bubbles in it. Solid& sturdy in good working shape. The handle, line guide, spool turn smooth/quite& freely. The thumb release& control wheel work. The reel is marked: LEW CHILDRE- MAG SPOOL BB-XLM- MAGNETIC ANTI-BACKLASH- LEW'S SPEED SPOOL REEL. A nice smooth casting Reel with not much wear. The box not only housed the reel, but was used for displaying the reel. This was well taken care of and would be a nice addition to a collection or use. The reel is very smooth and fully functional. Southbend #400 Anti-backlash casting fishing reel
Here is a freshwater baiting cast reel. It is a No. 400 South Bend reel. It has the lilne guide and it seems to work fairly nicely. It does need some oiling and TLC but I believe it is a nice reel.
