For some reason. My grandfather had these test tubes up in his attic. I am not sure why he needed them but please let me describe to you what I see. I believe there are 500 tubes in this box. I show the tube next to a tape measure. Also I believe the box shows the size of the tube. It comes with another box of perfectly fitting Cork stoppers. VINTAGE ART DECO HOLY WATER GLASS BOTTLES VIALS CATHOLIC LAST RITES Up for auction are two VINTAGE HOLY WATER BOTTLES. The larger one is ART DECO. Circa 1940s with classic lines and measures 4 1/4 inches by 2 3/4 inches. The cross and decoration look to be baked on white enamel. It is marked K inside a shield, 3 and 194 on the bottom. The smaller bottle measures 3 3/4 inches by 2 1/2 inches and has a convex relief cross and raised relief words Holy Water. Both of the tops appear to be and smell like BAKELITE or Catalin plastic and consists of two parts- the little center piece screws off to reveal a little opening to sprinkle last rites. One has a cork insert and the other one has what looks like a plastic insert- both have a little dirt. Vintage Chemistry Litmus Paper- These four glass vials of litmus paper came from an old high school science classroom. The vials contain hundreds of strips of unused litmus papers. There are three red litmus vials and one blue litmus vial. On the tops of the red vials they say: Instantaneous" Brand. They also state that the strips turn blue with alkaline. And they are"Acc. to A. C. S. Specifications" The blue vial says: 100 strips at the top, and"Guaranteed to meet A. C. S. Specifications" It also has"Chicago Apparatus Co. Chicago, ILL" printed on the bottom of the paper label. All vials are closed with corks. Labels are complete, in readable condition. Antique Apothecary Leather Medicine Case Glass Vials Signed J P Baxter Maine
Here's an old leather apothecary case with 6 tubes/vials. I'm guessing that these were used to hold medicines. This came from an old Maine Estate and had been stored away for over 40 years in an old leather briefcase. When I opened the top. I noticed that it had an old signature underneath on the inside of the flap. It looks to say J.P. Baxter and underneath that Governor of Maine. I know that J.P Baxter was a mayor in the Portland area and had a son that was Governor of Maine. I have no way to validate the signature, but it's possible that it could be authentic, I really don't know for sure! Based on the estate that it came from it seems possible. Could be a neat piece of history if it is. I've included pictures of the signature so that it can be reviewed. This is a Milk Test Wooden Rack with 24 bottles that were used to test amount of butter fat. The rack is 24" x 4.5" x 3.5" Upon researching this the rack was invented by John Mattson in 1905 US806910A. All of the bottles are in good condition(dusty) and none are broken or cracked. The sides of the rack go down to get the bottles out. One screw is missing on one end. I think the bottles are Babcock Bottles and I do not know age of the bottles. There are: 9 marked USA K. 5 marked USA K Sealed 3, 9 marked K NAFIS and 1 with no marking on it. This is an item that may need some more research as I know almost nothing about butter fat.
