I have for auction a wonderful Art Deco period Thermos jug. With its cork stopper. It is made from Urea Formaldehyde- a revised form of Bakelite which could be coloured) with a chromed metal handle. It stands 250mm tall and 120mm across the body and is mottled dark brown and black in colour and dates to the 1930's. The chrome on the handle is slightly pitted and the cork on the stopper has swollen so that it no longer can be pushed all the way in- this can easily be remedied. This is a very neat old medical device. A Brass Novy formaldehyde generator. Whether it was quackery or it really worked. You be the judge. The Unit was set outside the door of a room. The brass tube which is included was put inside keyhole. Then the mixture was boiled and the resulting gas was supposed to have cleaned up the room as best as could be done back then. I only know what I read about these units. This one seems to be in very good shape with the extra brass tubes and pieces shown. These units were made between the late 1880s and 1910. Comes with case and paperwork shown in pictures. Leather handle on top of case is very dry and cracking but still in tact. Carrying case measures 21"x10"x10.5" Total weight approximately 15 lbs. Click here for more of my auctions Additional pictures provided upon request Description: Here's a nice vintage bag. Set of tools and an embalming bottle with stopper The photos tell most of the story. The bag measures approximately 18"x 9.5" x 15" There's some damage to the bag with one of the top flaps having become separated from the rest of the bag. I think it can be sewn back on with a little time and skill. The bag is a bit dirty and needs a good cleaning. The lock on the top of the bag looks like it would have been closed with a strap and clasp but one of the straps appears to be missing. The lock on the bottom works properly. There is ... moresome chipping to the leather at the front of the bag but it adds some character. The embalming bottle is quite nice and is blown glass. It measures approx 4 3/4" x 4 3/4" x 8 1/2" States Durfee Embalming Fluid Co. Grand Rapids Mich. on one side. On the other side is the word POISON and markings for 8.16,24,32,40,48,56,64oz. There's a rubber stopper for the bottle. There is a small chip on the rim which can be seen in the photo and is very miniscule. The top portion of the bag opens up and there's a small tear in the fabric which is not too big. You can see where the bottle fits in the bottom of the case. At the top of the case the folio containing the tools snaps in. Both of the snaps work and the straps are in good shape Inside the folio are a number of tools a couple of which appear to have bone handles or something. There is a small case which contains 8 needles in a variety of shapes and sizes. The llittle case folds shut but the snap is broken. Antique Billings Patent FORMALDEHYDE FUMIGATOR - Unused
This is a unique mortuary collectible. It is an unused formaldehyde fumigator in it's original box. The box top has broken at all of it's folds but is included so you can reassemble it if you wish. The original directions are crumpled but also included. The box measures 2 1/4" square by 5" tall and is very colorful. It would make a great display. Inside is the original tin fumigator. I guess you lit the bottom and it pulled the sulphur and formaldehyde odors away. Circa 1910 DR Leininger FORMALDEHYDE Generator BOXED Set- UNOPENED. Nice Quack COLLECTABLE. Looks to be in basically unused and unopened condition. Lamp stand, burner assembly, and any other parts are still wrapped up in yellowed tissue paper inside the original paper box, instruction booklet is stuck inside one corner. I am hesitant to unwrap it any further as its in virgin new old stock condition. No real signs of ever being used. Items are still packed away in original box and I have never unpacked it, paper box lid is brittle in places and corners, a few stains here and there on the box- see all photos provided- a NEAT Quack COLLECTIBLE for sure!
