Printing plate American Hoist& Derrick. Crane train rail ship shipping marine. This is a larger plate. Measuring 11 1/4 by 8 3/4 by 7/8 inches. Particulars about this image: A crane is transferring scrap between a train and a ship. The images of the crane and ship are both very nice and evocative. A second crane is also working in the background. Behind the first one. Details of individual machinery components- including cables, boom parts, ship design- are sharper than in many of the other plates I have. A banner or sign on the side of the boom has letters. But it's hard to read those in the middle(see two images of that) As far as I can tell, reading backwards, the lower letters read"AMI" and the uppermost letters appear to be"AN" possibly AH) Condition: The angle at which the plate is held. And in what light, ... morehas a lot to do with how well the image can be seen. Tiny scratches on many parts of the image are not too distracting. A stain reaches from one of the train cars into the side of the crane, and then reappears above the ship in the sky. There is discoloration in the two top corners. It is safe to say American Hoist is an iconic company in the history and development of crane and hoist technology. This is. I think, the best of a larger lot of printing plates I have, depicting hoists made by American Hoist& Derrick, which was based in Saint Paul, MN. I am auctioning one plate per week during January and February of 2015. The entire lot was purchased from a gentleman who said his father worked for the company in Saint Paul, and he said they were all"from there" Unless we make other arrangements. The bridge is an underhung. 5-Ton x 40 ft. long x 20" deep single girder. The girder is fabricated by Cleveland Tramrail and has a hardened steel lower flange that is smooth, straight and wear resistant. The end trucks are motorized. The R&M hoist is also 5-Ton capacity with a 5 HP 220/440 3-Phase motor. The white that you see on some of the areas is overspray from when the ceiling was painted above it. We have removed the crane end trucks since the photos were taken. This crane was removed from a building that was sold. All items have been stored inside since being taken down. There is no crane rail included in this auction.
