for sale here is a very very early possibly circa 1850s 60s wide drum brass winch with serpentine handle. Winds well with good check, condition ok with no real faults other than the foot having been narrowed a little, no name but has a"U" stamped on the foot which i would think is for ustonson, i cant think of another maker of this type of reels in this era beginning with U. anyway please look at the fotos, i dont have the time to send out individual dispatch emails but items are normally posted the day after being paid for, i will post anywhere insured and recorded, and please view my other many listings of vintage items this week.thanks for looking.and i do eventually get round to leaving feedback once they build up to about 300 i do them all at once.

Hi. This is a Hyster Tractor Donkey model D4N double drum winch unit for Caterpillar bulldozer model D4. This unit was produced in the 1950s and came off of a Cat D4 7u model. Winch is in working condition. One control lever is a little bent, needs heating and straightening. Double drum winches were the solution for hoisting and lifting and pile driving and draglining before the hydraulic revolution replaced everything. The attached images and statistics are from a 1951 Hyster winch catalog. Obviously the item for sale is the winch shown in the four pictures, the image of a winch on a D4 does not mean a Cat D4 is included in this auction. J.D. Christian 2 Drum Waterfall Winch Marine Salvage towing lifting rigging
For Auction- 1- J.D. Christian 2 drum waterfall winch. This winch was used to pull barges on a cradle up a set of rails on the Kanawha River. It is a model 316OU and was manufactured in July of 1945. It has two main drums and a third auxiliary drum. All three are gear driven and have band brakes. They also each have a capstan on the outside. I am sure the brake banding is no good. Each of the two drums has what we would call a jaw clutch. The winch was driven by a Buda 6 cylinder engine that is probably not operational. The stack has been open to the weather. We have not tried to start it. There is a snap clutch followed by a multispeed gearbox of some sort. In front of the operator is another gearbox of some sort operated by one of the three large handles in form or the seat. There is 3/4" cable on the drums but it is rusted and will ... moreneed replaced. Overall. The winch is in pretty good condition. Of course it is rusted and will require a great deal of work, freeing and cleanup to operate. It will most likely need to be repowered as well. The operators station has 3 large levers.
