Cent, Copper, 26mm Diameter, Plain Edge, Breton-917 Charlton PE-5A This is the earlier 1859 variety of a Prince Edwards Island clevis reverse cent. Research wise this is the only Uncirculated example of a PE-5A I have ever seen as all others have been VF condition or lower. The more commonly seen later issued 1860 hook reverse PE-5B can be regularly found in grades of XF. AU, and ICCS has graded at least 3 in UNC. As you can see in the supplied images there’s no rub on pictorial plough or fish. On the obverse the plow. Handles, and crossbar are as struck. On the reverse fillet you can not only see fully struck edges but also the center ridge with trace remaining mint red present ... morethroughout. If you collecting these by variety and seek out higher grades you may never stumble across another uncirculated example once this one is gone as this may very well be the finest known. Reaching for a 2006 Charlton 6 th edition(as I misplaced my current 8 th) the 1859 Clevis PE-5A is almost double in value in grades of AU though MS of the 1860 Hook PE-5B. Prices I’m sure have risen between edition revisions and I will edit this portion once I locate my newer book. In 2006 a PE-5A was valued in AU at $300.00. CHAU at $475.00, a UNC at $600.00. The example offered here was formally in a CCCS UNC graded two layer sealed flip and was removed as even with a loupe under a light source I could not see the token and photography though both layers was impossible.
