It would be perfect for the draftsman or artist or just about anyone who likes to stay organized. It has a wood grained look to the metal. It has acquired a patina that only comes with age. The 6 drawers are exactly alike and each has 2 drawer pulls and name tag that are made of Brass. The measurements of the cabinet are 23 1/4" X 9 1/4" X 7" high. Some of the inside of the drawers show some wear and some of them look to have never been used. Please refer to pictures. This cabinet is very well built. Selling a vintage Cole Steel single drawer index card file box cabinet. The Cole Steel Equipment Company was founded in New York City in 1933. They made strong high quality steel products. They supplied equipment to large manufacturers like General Motors and Western Electric as well as to smaller firms like schools. Medical offices, architects and accountants. In 1963 they were absorbed into another company. This dark grey metal file has a great industrial look. The box accommodates 3" x 5" index or file cards. It measures 16 inches long(not including the handle) by 6 and 11/16 inches wide by 5 and 3/16 inches tall. The Cole logo is at the front of the box. The handle has a slot for a label. I'm not sure if it's a steelmaster it is not marked, but it may be missing, not sure. Both drawers have metal handles with a place to insert a label. The cabinet is in good used condition, it has many scratches on the top, some scratches on front and sides, may have a ding here or there, and on one side has a flaw a little rust spot and or oxidation, see pictures. The cabinet measures approx. 20 3/4" wide x 16 1/8" deep x 8 1/8" tall and weighs almost 17 pounds. The bottom has four holes on the edges. Not sure what they were for, see pictures. It is painted a soft turquoise green color. And has pale gray drawer fronts. It has been thoroughly cleaned inside and out. There are a some scratches here and there(mostly near the four round impressions on top from stacking) but no major wear. It measures 16 and 3/16 inches long(not including the handles on the front) by 12 and 5/8 inches wide by 5.25 inches tall(including four circular feet on the bottom) Each handle has a sliding plastic protective label cover. Two small slots on the top and two small tabs on the bottom allow it to be stacked with other similar file drawers. Adjustable mechanisms inside the drawers hold index cards in place. I can't find a maker's name on the item. This box has some scratches on exterior surfaces. Some wear and rust along edges, and a rusted spot on the top where another file box has scraped the surface. Vtg Industrial 2 Drawer Gray Metal Filing Cabinet / Card Catalog / Cole Steel
Up for auction is a desk top filing cabinet manufactured by Cole Steel. Which is perfect for 3" x 5" cards or legal size envelopes placed in it lengthwise. It is in very good shape with light scratches, rub marks, stains and the like which one would expect with something this old coming out of an industrial environment. There is no dents and 99.9% rust free! I believe all these cabinets had 4 small hard rubber supports(feet) that would keep the cabinet from resting directly on a desk or counter top when first produced.
