Through the use of this manual. Many circular sawmill operators can increase the efficiency of their sawing operation. Many operators could realize an increase of 10 percent or more in lumber output by improving the accuracy of their cutting. For example, an operator with a log input of 5 million board feet per year could realize an additional 500,000 board feet through improved efficiency. This means not only substantial savings in timber resources but also a lowering of per-unit cost and consequently higher profits for the operation. This is a c1920 Antique Marked"U.S. Dept. of Agriculture- Forest Service" wood 36" Tree Caliper made by"Eugene Dietzgen Co. Chicago- New York. The? Lettering is Under"Chicago- New York" and is Not Legible. Overall it measures 40 7/8" long and has 1" thick x 21 7/8" jaws. The Rule was Almost Cracked Off and I Repaired that Together Well. I see a Similar Caliper Pictured in a 1912 and 1915 Eugene Dietzgen Catalogue. I See online the"U.S. Dept. of Agriculture- Forest Service" Started under that Name in 1905 as per Teddy Roosevelt. There are a Couple Missing Brass Pieces on the Moveable Jaw. See last two photos, and the Small Brass Screws that Keep the Nuts from Coming All the Way Off Need Replacing.
