Some History about this Clock Face: One of the earliest information technology devices in the workplace was the time clock. Which recorded the comings and going of workers with an accuracy not previously possible. Edward G. Watkins invented and patented one of the first practical time clocks while he was in charge of the engineering department of Haywood Brothers& Wakefield Co. in Gardner, Mass. a maker of chairs and school furniture. Watkins started a company to make the clocks, which eventually became the Simplex Time Recorder Co. This piece is a very early version dating to the 1920's. Up for bid is a Vintage Antique Fire Alarm Pull Call Box. Break glass pull hook down. When you open door there is a lever inside. It says pull hook way down and let go. When I did that an alarm sounded and rang for 75 seconds. Spring loaded mechanism. Pretty cool, it works. It was made by SIMPLEX RECORDING Co. of Gardners MASS. USA. Top label has UNDERWRITERS LABRORATORIES INC. inspected sig. 318 PRIVATE STATION No.487357 This alarm box is in really good condition for its age. It is 17 3/4" across the long part of this. The horn opening diameter is 5 1/8" There is a number 715720 on the side of this. Some slight paint wear on the horns. Paint residue on the base part. This is one of their earlier vintage models that was manufactured sometime around 1918. The case is solid oak standing 31” high by 14” wide by 8” deep. It weighs a total of 33lbs. The finish is in fair to good condition with some fading and a few nicks. Scratches, and blemishes. The front latch is functional however the original lock that worked together with the latch is missing. The face and hands are in good condition with some minor signs of wear. The glass on the front is the original. The movement works for about 10 minutes then stops. I believe the problem is it may have the wrong suspension spring installed. It stamped great(see pics) and you can hear the clicking of the inside mechanics turning and working as its supposed to. No manual or instruction guide. No original box and unfortunately NO KEY! This fabulous old clock is set into the door of a heavy metal cabinet. The clock was once a school-bell timer I believe. The internal circuitry is missing. It would once have been set to make the bell ring at certain times. There are dials for 3 different circuits and circuit diagrams inside. The drive mechanism has been professionally replaced with a battery operation and is working perfectly. The very heavy metal cabinet has a key and would make a great retro safe or storage cabinet for valuables etc. There are holes in the back of the cabinet to attach it to a wall. Up for sale here we have a Vintage SIMPLEX TIME RECORDER INDUSTRIAL TIME CLOCK 6341 Art Deco. This time clock is in working condition. The ink inside is still good to go. We don't have the key for this unit. But it looks like a replacement could be found(doesn't look like a very complicated key) There is a little bit of cracking in the power cord, but it only exposes the covered wires underneath. Some of the paint has chipped off, but overall it is in good condition. The time clock measures approximately 10.75"x12.75"x7.25" and weighs a hefty 24lbs 14oz. The paint is a blue/grey color. It appears that it was modified slightly with the addition of a ground wire and a three prong plug. I believe the other wiring is original. This Large Oak Time Recorder Time Clock was converted from a spring powered movement to electric driven many years ago and is not running. The original electric converted movement and punch card movement appear to be complete. The punch card movement is printing and ringing the bell when the lever is pushed down and the time changes when the connecting rod between the clock and punch unit is manually turned. The finish on the case is alligatored and the door glass has a crack in the lower right corner. The lock is present but I do not have the key. The dial pan may be an old replacement but will need a new paper dial applied to it. Please use all of the photos to help you evaluate this large time clock. A vintage Simplex time recorder. Recorder is finished in black wrinkle paint. And is in working condition. Keeps time and stamps time cards. A supply of time cards is included, but there is no key. Recorder is used. And does show some paint loss and a small dent at the top. The cord is stiff and split where it enters the clock, but it currently functional.
