When powered on, you set the desired temperature using the dial and the unit begins to heat up. If you have a need for a name-brand but inexpensive used heat transfer press.this might be the one! This older press is made by Stahls. A recognized, made-in-America press. It must be opened manually.no pop-up feature as on the newer ones. It was tested to power on and heat-up. But I am not a person who uses this kind of equipment so I was not able to test it further. Info from the mfg can be found under the last picture on this page. Please scroll down through 17 pictures; text between some pictures. Unit is mounted on a board and will be shipped that way as it will give a good base for packing and is only a little wider and longer than the unit itself. Unit is in very good shape; upper and lower platens are ready to go to work. Pics above and below show the 11" x 15" platen surface. Knob above adjusts pressure for lock-down. The ... moreheat control knob is currently sitting at 325 and that is the left-most position as the knob is mounted. When it rotates to the right(clockwise) it rotates beyond the maximum setting shown on the scale. It came this way and I think that rotational movement would exceed the scale setting no matter how the knob was fastened to the metal stud inside. I'm assuming the mfg made it this way. This is a Mighty Press. Model MM-850, Heat Transfer Mug Press. It has been used. But is very clean and in good condition. My stepfather used this to give everyone a custom made coffee cup for birthdays and holidays. It comes with two discs, and what looks like another sleeve, all as shown in the photos. We could not find the instructions to try making a cup with it, but we did plug it in and it heated up instantly, and the dial worked. This machine is very heavy- local pickup is welcomed if you are in southwestern PA.

All of the mechanical parts move free and function good. It was in the basement workshop area at a local estate sale. And it could definitely use a detailed cleaning. There is a crack or tear in the front edge of the pad(see photo) It is away from the heat, and doesn't look like it would interfere in any way with the operation of the machine. Simply use designer software, such as Photoshop, create your design and Print your transfer! For the value, the printer gets the job done. I installed a CISS into the printer(Continuous Ink Supply System) which allows you to print in bulk without having to constantly re-fill the ink cartridges.
