Fine Ashanti Antique(circa late 1800s) Asante Kuduo Bronze Gold Dust Box with mongoose figure on the lid. From the old private collection of the internationally celebrated artist and ardent Africanist. This is a rare. Museum quality authentic artifact(circa late 1800s) The item is about 3 5/8" diameter x 2 1/2 hight with lid in excellent antique condition. Gold dust was the medium of exchange in West Africa for hundreds of years. Accordingly. A range of paraphernalia associated with storing, handling and weighing gold dust was developed. This box is one such item. It was used for storing and carrying gold dust. It is cast in the manner of the gold weights used in weighing gold themselves- using the lost wax process. The lid fits in the box and fits tightly, even though it has been cast separately. The lid has been cast with a series ... moreof wave patterns. Indeed, the box is similar in appearance to the weights used to measure gold dust. Possibly, this was to divert attention from its contents. But equally, it is possible that such boxes were used as weights themselves. The box has excellent patina and very obvious age from many years of handling. Gold dust was stored in such boxes. It was kept inside the box wound up in a cloth. Spoons were used to ladle the dust from box to scales. And personal weights were used to weigh gold dust which became the currency used to settle everyday transactions. Each party to any transaction would typically use their own weights. The negotiating process not only would include the cost in gold dust of the items being transacted over but also a comparison of weights. Debate over the scales used and the purity of the gold dust(gold often was adulterated with brass filings) Even transactions as rudimentary as buying vegetables in a street market necessitated this process. Early American wood pounder Up for sale is a RARE Early American metal workers tool used in the process of casting iron objects. Primarily for pounding down and shaping sand molds, it dates from the 19th century. This tool was turned from a single piece of hardwood. It measures 14 inches high, and retains a beautiful old patina. I've only seen one example of this piece on the internet and that was in an online antique store. I imagine because of the abuse that this tool took and the harsh environment in which it was used is why so few exist. I like Fenders. I like them a lot. Most of the time. I shoot for original Fenders. But sometimes, I find a good project that needs some love. This is one of those guitars. It is not original in all aspects. I don't have the original parts from what has been modded. The case is a generic aftermarket case that does an OK job. This item is for sale locally. The neck is SUPERB. The body feels and sounds great! The bridge sounds wonderful. The original neck plate is present. Most of the parts on the control plate are genuine Fender. But are not likely to be original to the guitar. Some are, some aren't. Assume that it is mostly not and you'll be happy. The guitar sounds fantastic. Really. I love the zillion combinations of this particular setup of the four-way switch. S-1 switch, and old-style ceramic caps. The pickups are not original. ... moreThey are older DiMarzios from some old jazz guy- I bought them from him on eBay. Can't remember his name. In Short. I love these pickups. The neck pickup has a gold cover. The tuners(as I received them) appear to be from a road-worn Fender. They have SOME"aging" on them. I have included a nice. Nearly-new set of Fender tuners with the guitar so you can change them if you don't like the worn feel. If you do, then you get extra tuners! The previous owner wrote in the body cavity(not me. When I do customs, I sign them) How much does it weigh? I don't have an accurate scale. I measured it on my bathroom scale with me + Baja. Then me: It was a difference between 7 and 8 pounds.
