Vintage Porter Cable A3 - 3 inch Belt Sander Locomotive Sander - Used - Runs
Garage sale find. I picked up this vintage Porter Cable A3 Locomotive 3" Belt Sander at the sale of a lifelong woodworker who was downsizing his shop. The locomotive sander is a classic design. And it looks great of the workbench of any shop. I plugged the sander in to test it and it fired right up. When I bought it. The sander had a belt on it, but it was well worn so I removed it. I spent a fair amount of time removing sawdust as well as some grease and grime from all the nooks and crannies of this tool, but I'm sure it would benefit from a more detailed cleaning from its new owner. The cord is firmly attached and functioning. But there is electrical tape covering what I assume is a break in the casing. I would recommend installing a new cord upon receipt of this tool. Don't let the"Takeabout" name fool you. This ... moresander is bulky and heavy, but it will certainly get the job done. I have done my best to show the condition of this item. Vintage Porter Cable 136 Belt Sander 3" X 21" Early Model c1950's
This is an original Porter Cable#136 belt sander in good condition. A classic! I found this sander at an estate sale here locally and learned it was owned by a cabinet maker who took exceptional care of his tools. There is no type indicator on this tool. It is one of the very first models made before typing began. This sander starts quickly and immediately gets up to speed. The drive wheel is in fantastic shape with solid rubber that is not decayed or cracked. The front wheel is straight and there is no evidence of it having been dropped or abused. These sanders are heavy and are frequently dropped which breaks the handle or the front left wheel mount. Not this tool. Nothing is cracked or damaged and everything is where it should be and operates correctly. This sander is in as found condition and could use a good cleaning.
