This auction is for 1 great antique brass call box skeleton key. This is a typical call box key. Call boxes were common in cities for police and firemen to call in to the station before the days of 2-way radio. It may fit a Gamewell box. But I am not a hundred percent sure becuase the person I purchased it from was not a hundred percent sure either. To give you an idea of length, each square on the graph board is a half inch. Awesome Antique Gamewell Fire Alarm Telegraph Station Cast iron- heavy piece of history. Late 1800’s to early 1920’s era This was an old barn find for us. It is in good condition and would be an excellent restoration project. Outer cast iron red shell has original key still attached and original numbers“347” Nothing has been done to restore- appears to be all original paint- see photos as it is worn. Front says. Fire Alarm Telegraph Station” and“Gamewell Fire Alarm Telegraph Company, New York. The sides still have some of the original diagonal white stripe paint as well. Inside is the smaller white box that says. Pull the hook down once and let go. This box appears to contain a huge majority of all of the original pieces and functioning parts. There is an original glass piece and a couple of bolts in one photo. It appears there are a few ... morepieces missing- ie a spring to hold the glass in, a lever, etc. Please see pictures closely. You are bidding on what is shown only. The amount of inside guts found inside this box, and in the great condition that they appear to be in is a rare find! The inside box is not connected to the outer box in any way right now. It is only sitting inside- not connected. There is no other key with this item except for the one shown on the front. This box has a working speaker telephone installed and has a modular phone line attached. This Call box you will be able to receive and make calls. The modular line is five inches long. 1924 GAMEWELL FIRE ALARM STATION BOX CAST ALUMINUM PULL DOWN LEVER TYPE M 2513
This is a vintage Gamewell Fire Alarm Station box. It is cast aluminum. Has a Patent date of Jan. 1, 1924 with a pull down handle and the parts are still inside. It measures 12 3/4 inches tall from the bottom edge to the apex of the back, is 7 3/8 inches wide across the front, and is 4 1/4 inches deep from front to back. Condition is very good, the exterior red paint has faded, but there are remnants of the original red paint on the inside, see pictures for details. There is no key but the lock mechanism is still intact and in the open position to access the inside, see pictures. There are no chips or cracks, a couple dings on the left front edge of the roof. Gamewell Moses Crane 1880's Repeater and Transmitter
Exceptionally rare Fire Alarm Telegraph repeater. Made by Moses Crane for the Gamewell fire alarm telegraph Company. Anything marked Made by Moses Crane you know is prior to October 5, 1886. Moses Crane patented the Repeater in 1868. The patent date on this instrument is 1880 giving us a better idea when it was placed in service. The earlier repeaters had less circuits than the later ones as the earlier telegraph systems had substantially less fire alarm boxes in their systems as the system sizes grew Repeaters became larger with more circuits to handle the additional fire alarm boxes. This fire alarm Repeater is show on page184 in Chapter 12 the Central Station Equipment section of History of the Fire Alarm and Police Telegraph. The 1902 Fire alarm census indicated that only 295 automatic repeaters in the fire service. Most of the repeaters ... moreknown to exist are the larger later devices with at least twice the amount of circuits. This weight driven repeater comes with a piece of furniture it is currently displayed on. It has not been secured to the box. It just sits on top of the hole. The box is 17" tall without the firetruck and 21.5" with it. The roof is 12" wide, while the body is only 10" wide. Vintage Holtzer Cabot Fire Alarm Box....not Gamewell
Beautiful Holtzer Cabot Fire Alarm Box This is a Holtzer Cabot Fire Alarm Box. It is signed on the bottom of the door. It is made of cast aluminum, is 15" tall 10" wide and 8 1/2" deep. It weighs about 23#s. It has been stripped and coated with 2 coats of Zinc Chromate and 5 coats of paint giving it a beautiful deep mirror red finish. The letters. And the gold stripping were hand painted on. The Box# on the brass tag is 2-2-8-1 with a matching code wheel. When you pull the alarm handle down the box taps out the number. Many of the parts of the box have some sort of 4 digit number on them including the hinges and doors. No scratches dents or nicks. There is no glass in the key guard and the small porcelan block in the back of the box has a crack in it. see last picture. The lock for the inner door will be mounted backwards or ... morepacked separatly because there is no key for it. Shipping is for the lower 48 States and if it is less I will refund some money. ANTIQUE GAMEWELL FIRE ALARM LOCATION PUNCH RECORDER Pat'd 1899 & 1902 EXCELLENT
Up for auction is a Very Nice Vintage and Rare Gamewell Fire Alarm Location Recorder that was used in many of the Gamewell Fire Alarm Telegraph Co. Systems. A Fire Alarm Location Recorder like this would have been located at the Fire Departments Central Registry. When an alarm came in to the Fire Department this unit would Punch a Code into the Recorder Paper that would feed into it. The Code punched into the paper would enable the Fire Department to ascertain the exact location of where the alarm was originated. The Gamewell Fire Alarm Telegraph Company Alarm and Call Systems were the Diamond Standard of a large majority of the Fire Departments in the United States. With the inception of the 911 emergency telephone call system in the 1960's these types of systems were slowly phased out of service. Sadly. The vast majority of these Recorders ... morewere sold to the local scrap dealer and destroyed(recycled) Those that are still around and can be found make wonderful and handsome collectibles. To my knowledge this Gamewell Recorder is complete and original. When I acquired this Recorder over 25 years ago I took it partially apart. Cleaned the parts, polished the brass and then sprayed the brass with a clearcoat before reassembling it. I then mounted the Box on the Wood Base that it sits on now for display purposes. I will include the stand(at no extra charge) if you would like it. It could probably use some cosmetic cleaning, touch-up, and/or polishing if you so desire. I will have to remove the glass and pack it so that it does not get damaged during shipping. So that means the buyer will have to re-install the glass when it arrives. The porcelain cup that you see in the last picture is not the correct cup. The cup was used to catch the punched out paper shards as the paper fed through the recorder. The original cup was a metal cup. I had this cup and I substituted it for the original cup that I never had. When the unit is wound up and a lever is pushed to activate it the gears start turning inside. So. It should be
