As you can see in the photos. It looks ready to be hooked up and made operational. I have not tested it. I believe it can even be wound up and set for the interior bell to sound if the lever is pulled. I'm too chicken to try it, however, because I don't want to break it. If someone would like to contact me with instructions on how to test it, I would give it a go. The key and lock work perfectly. The paint is in very nice condition with only a few nicks and nacks. The back has many more scrapes from be mounted on a wall I would assume. On the top and bottom of the box are entry/exit holes for wiring. The previous owner has added a gold painted. Lead or similar metal firetruck as a decorative ornament. It has not been secured to the box. It just sits on top of the hole. The box is 17" tall without the firetruck and 21.5" with it. The roof is 12" wide, while the body is only 10" wide. It sticks out 6" from the wall. I weighs just over 26 pounds. Very old veteran bicycle bike siren nickel fork bell alarm wheel driven vintage
The siren is in good working order and unblemished. But the nickel is a little tarnished. The siren is mounted on a spring loaded arm and is engaged with a rod or wire, note, the activating rod/wire is not with the siren. The mounting plate is flat on the inside and rounded on the outer to suit front fork blade shape. When activated the siren’s serrated pulley engages with the front tyre which spins the siren to cause a loud wailing sound. The pulley is Bakelite and is worn on the outer end. This massive bell is one beautiful monster. It was discovered more than a decade ago in an old designer's studio(by m yself) during his move out due to a change in building ownership. The old guy was clearing out tons of great stuff and it was the last day before he had to go. I bought a lot of vintage hand-poured glass bricks. Deco fixtures, and some nice wood pieces from him. Bought way too much actually. Anyway. He had almost cleared out and it was the end of his last day there. So I went back to see if anything was left. He was basically ready to go. On the way out. I happened to notice a dirty rope sticking through a hole in his front door. Behind some boxes. Curiosity got to me and I peeked around the back of the door. A ttached to the other end of the rope was none other t han this bea utiful massive bell. mounted to the back of ... morehis stu dio door! Consider that a reminder to look behind every door) Anyway. The guy had basically forgotten about it as the door was propped open from his boxes of packing stuff. He had rigged the rope through the door to act as a crazy doorbell to his office. I asked about it and he said- Oh yea. That's a boxing bell I got from Mickey Rourke. I think he said he had done some work for him. In any event. His truck was already packed and my offer for the bell was right so we had a deal. The bell had a new home. This was around 1999. Probably after Rourke's interest in boxing surged but before his success with The Wrestler in'08 and his Oscar nomination for the film. The bell and mechanism are beautiful. Old. Old. Old. And that bell has been hammered! But that's the great part. It is built like a tank that has been through a fight and still the bell has the most amazing sound ever. A real champion. You can see the hammer hit marks from use in countless bouts through the years. The glorious ring after the bell strikes seems to last forever- and it vibrates like a tuning fork. Up for auction is a Very Nice Vintage and Rare Oval Shaped Alarm Call Pull Box from The Gamewell Fire Alarm Telegraph Co. New York. Call Boxes like this were used to send an Alert- Alarm to a Fire Departments Central Registry giving the exact location of a Fire in an instant. Back in the day Boxes similar to this one were once a very common sight throughout every city in the United States. This Call Box has the"Break Glass Pull Hook" feature that was used mainly indoors in large buildings. Most of the Call Boxes used outdoors did not have the"Break Glass" feature on them. The Gamewell Fire Alarm Telegraph Company Alarm and Call Boxes were the Diamond Standard of these systems. With the inception of the 911 telephone call system in the 1960's few cities retained their Fire Alarm Call Box Systems. Sadly. The vast majority ... moreof these Boxes were sold to the local scrap dealer and destroyed(recycled) Those that are still around make wonderful and handsome collectibles. To my knowledge this Gamewell Fire Alarm Call Box is complete and original. When I acquired this box over 25 years ago I took it apart, cleaned all the parts, stripped and re-painted the box before reassembling it. I then mounted the Box on the Oak Stand for display purposes. I will include the stand(at no extra charge) if you would like it. It does have a few scratches in the paint and could stand a good cleaning or polishing if you are so desire. I recently acquired and I will also include the Brass Hammer that would have been mounted on the Box. The Hammer would have been used to"Break Glass" on the door to enable you to Pull Down on the Hook to send the Alarm. There is a small bracket that comes with the hammer to mount it to the box. I will let the buyer attach it. I have a Brass Key that I use to rewind the inner spring inside the Box. It is not the original but it will work just fine. You can see it in the pictures. This is a fully operational FDNY alarm box. It has been fully restored and redone. From sand blasting to 10 coats of paint(primer to clear) And all the brass pieces removed and polished to the pin-striping on the letters this alarm box has come out like the day it was put on the pole. Pull the handle and the clock mechanism starts right up. I have the original front plate that goes on the lower part of the front door I just haven't put it back on( box# 2120) Good luck bidding. Vintage Art Deco Wind up Alarm Clocks NEW HAVEN and Endura Bayard The New Haven Alarm Clock runs well and the alarm is loud and clear. The Endura runs. But the alarm doesn't work correctly, maybe it needs a service. The Endura clock has two different side panels. See pics#5 and#6. One side is a clear plastic, the other is a deco metal insert. Vintage Gilbert winding alarm clock for parts
Gilbert hand wind alarm clock in a deco style case manufactured in Winsted. Conn + Laconia, N.M. USA. Measures 7" wide x 5" tall; bezel measures 5" wide x 4 1/8" When you shake this clock it will run for awhile, the alarm does sound off& all of the winds do work. It just won't stay running. There is a crack in the case(pic#3) otherwise in good condition. Selling for parts. This is a very nice Fire Alarm Box Light. It was used on Gamewell and other brand Fire Alarm boxes. It measures 10" long and weighs 2 1/2 pounds. It has a porcelin light socket with wires. It has a clear glass light cover and a protective cage. It comes with a red light bulb. It is wired for 110 A/C voltage(household current) There is a 1/2" pipe nipple in the bottom for mounting to the top of the alarm box.
