This is a working. Fully functional unit. It doesn't measure low-level or background radiation- just the kind of radiation you'd be worried about after a nuclear blast. I inserted the 3 type C batteries it needs and it fired right up and successfully went through it's self-test. I did note and took a photo of how much the top battery of the three sticks up that has to be pushed down with the lid in order to make proper contact. Don't be rough with it and it will click right in. There's some accessories included and a laminated instruction card- very helpful. The box is in rough shape, what with water stains all over it, but the inside is fine and the unit is waterproof anyway, according to hubby. It is basically a digital readout Geiger counter. But can count and display other types of pulsed signals. This unit has five Dekatron tubes as the readout; tubes are type GC-10B made in England by Baird Atomic, Inc. It powers up and all Dekatron tubes count correctly with a Geiger tube as input. RM-4 Hand Held Radiation Monitor Geiger Counter Detector w BNC Probe Connector
This is a SE international geiger counter that has a BNC connector allowing you to use it with an external probe. The original factory setting is 500V +.20V. It is especially well suited to use with those surplus Russian pancake geiger counter tubes. The original internal GM tube has been removed since it was damaged. It would be better to put in a high range GM tube in it's place. Then you'll have a high range gamma dose meter with the external probe option of detecting contamination. The HV output is variable 400 to 800V sellectable by shorting out HV zener diodes. If you need a specific voltage, let me know. Hamamatsu Radiation Scintillator Photomultiplier Detector Geiger Counter Tube
This is a very nice photomultiplier tube that will make a nice scintillation detector for many common Ludlum geiger counters. It is a 76mm dia. Head-on type, Bialkali photocathode(Effective area: 70 mm dia. The maximum spectral response is 300 to 650 nm, peaking near 435nm, originally designed for NaI or plastic scintillator based gamma cameras. It needs 450 to 1550V; best at 750v to1100v to work. You can make a voltage divider to use it with most common geiger counters using several 10 meg ohm 1/4W resistors. The biasing HV caps that are also needed for the last 3 stages are already attached to the board. The board on it also has the tube electrode pin configuration clearly marked making these PMT tubes really easy to set up! A trip out to the machine shop I bored out and modified a high quality military BNC bulk head fitting on the lathe to replace the old PL259 fitting it was originally fitted with. The probe body is able to house multiple tubes such as LND 72519. 72523, 72527,72544 as used in most Ludlum and other side window housings, 72510, and Victoreen 1B85 or 6306. all of the tubes listed are 900 volt tubes there are others that will also fit) The Victoreen 1B85 Thyrode tube has been tested for start up voltage as well as efficiency using a Cs 137 test source it is a perfect tube and has TWICE the BETA GAMMA sensitivity of the LND steel thin wall tubes. For Sale. Vintage Civil Defense High School Kit. This kit contains the following items; 1) Geiger counter model CD V-700. 1) Radiological Monitor Model CD V-715, 2) Dosimeter Charger's model CD V-750-5B, 10) CD Dosimeters, 2) Headphones, 2) Gas? CBR Civilian Masks Sizes 4& 5, Instruction Manuel's, 2) Shoulder Straps, Calibration Document, Crate With Original Mat. This Kit is in overall good condition. Shows some signs of wear and some paint loss on one of the Dosimeter Charger's. I believe this was owned by the State of Minnesota. The items were stored without batteries in them so there is very minimal signs of any corrosion. I have tested both Meters and they do work. The Geiger Counter reads correctly when presented to the calibration location on the side of the unit. Both Headphones also work correctly. I also was able ... moreto zero out the Dosimeters with the charger, they all currently read(0) Zero. The Crate is in nice overall condition with signs of wear all over and some missing slivers of wood on the rear by the hinges, Decals& Paint are strong. Came from a dry, smoke free environment.
