This is an original civil defense/Victoreen geiger counter from the 50's. I'm selling it because I found it to be too bulky for my bug-out bag. It has surprisingly little wear and tear compared to some of the others on the market. A good visual specimen. No parts missing. Although the battery is not included. Since I do not have radioactive materials, I have not tested it, so it may or may not be functional, however, when I bought it, it was marketed as functional. The circuit check works last time I checked, but I know too many people who have tested these on actual radioactive materials and found them to be non-functional when they were marketed as functional, so I can't guarantee anything. 1955 Sears Tower Model 6157 Geiger Counter
Sears Roebuck& Company began offering Geiger counters in their Fall and Winter catalog in 1950. In 1955. Sears introduced the“Tower” complete line of Geiger counters and scintillation counters for uranium and oil field prospecting. The trademark was the Sears Tower. The Model 6157 here for sale was the Sears best seller and a highly sensitive Geiger counter. It has a highly sensitive, removable probe for measuring radioactivity in cracks and crevices. It has three ranges from 0.2, 2 and 20 mR/h. The unit has a blue case and measures 3-3/4” x 3-3/4” x 7-7/8” The unit sold for $99.95 in 1955. This unit is in excellent condition and powers on with batteries and the meter moves. I cannot verify beyond this. Takes two D batteries. Comes with headphones. Bicron 1M1/1.5 Radiation Detector Scintillator w/ 2 Sockets - Gamma Spectrum
You are bidding on a used Bicron NaI scintillation probe. Model 1M1/1.5. The probe is in very good condition with a few minor scratches. Also included are two bases with dynode strings. The first(chrome plated) is a Bicron model P-12. It has a seven(7) megohm dynode string with a High Voltage BNC connection; requires a positive high voltage, and a signal out BNC connection. Signal output is a negative going pulse that will work with Theremino and PRA software for gamma spec use. The second base assembly is custom made and consists of the socket and an approximate 100 megohm dynode string. With a BNC connector, great for connecting to most any Geiger counter. The second photo shows the probe connected to my GSM-110 Geiger counter reading 30,000 CPM, at two feet, from ME! I get 5000 CPM with a GM tube on the same meter, so this is a very sensitive ... moreprobe. Had a nuclear stress test yesterday morning and the Technetium-99 isotope is still fairly hot. This is a Technical Associates P-11 Pancake Probe that detects alpha. Beta and gamma. The thin mica membrane allows alphas and betas to pass through. This detector works well and has been tested by comparing its output in CPM with a Ludlum 44-9 probe. This is very similar in operation to a Ludlum 44-9 and can be used interchangeably. The window diameter is about 2 inches or 5 CM. Operates on 900 volts DC. The cable is terminated with a standard BNC(male inner pin) connector. To use with a Ludlum would require a BNC to C adapter. I have had absolutely no problems at all with the functions. The battery check, reset, and light all work. The glass is clear and has two very minor scratches. The meter has to be held at angle to see these scratches. The rubber covering the buttons and switches show no sign of deterioration. Up for auction is a Bgeigie Nano radiation detector with GPS logging. Designed by hackerspace volunteers in Tokyo in response to the Fukushima nuclear disaster. It uses a precision geiger-mueller tube. A phenomenal GPS, and data logging to record every 5 seconds, the radiation level, the location, and the time. This bgeigie records a standard text file that can be read in any text reader or be uploaded directly into Safecast to be contributed to the crowdsourced database of readings. This bgeigie was built from the bgeigie kit at Safecast. And has been field tested, verified and has passed a 100 hour burn in. A fully functional Ludlum model 3 radiation survey meter with 44-7 probe as shown in pictures. Tested with Fiesta plate and there is no issue.
