Vintage Scintillator Quality Instruments Model 111B Radiation Detector Gieger
This is a nice vintage hand held radiation detector made by Precision Instruments Inc. from Dad's old collection of neat time-capsule stuff. It looks great and I don't know anything about how it works so I must sell it as is. The battery contacts and compartment are clean as a whistle. The chrome plating is superb all over except for a little brass being exposed at the hand grip. The battery box is chrome plated steel and the rest of the unit appears to be solid cast(the hand grip) and sheet brass(the body) Chrome plated. A very nice quality American made instrument. Both switches(knobs) work fine mechanically and the meter glass lens is fine too. The leather case is completely intact and not dried out. The shoulder strap shows the most wear and I don't know how long I'd swing the thing around with the shoulder strap. But ... morethe leather hand carrying handle looks like new for this age case. This auction is for a PARTIAL gamma detector that has all the electronics and shielding but NO CRYSTAL. The original NaI crystal was poorly sealed and the Florida humidity destroyed it. You will need to add your own crystal in order to return this into a functioning gamma detector. The detector has a 1/4 inch lead shield over the critical circuit area and a metal light shield over the photomultiplier tube. The photomultiplier tube is a EMI type 9843 KB/3 No. 25949. All connections come to a PT style connector on the one end. The circuit connections are pretty easy to figure out. The complete assembly is 12 inches long and 2/1/2 inches wide. vintage 1954 PROFESSIONAL model 107B GEIGER COUNTER - ORIG PRICE TAG STILL ON
I purchased this at an estate sale and was told by the son who was running the sale that it was his dad's favorite toy and that it was originally purchased by him back in 1954. The geiger counter was made by Precision Radiation Instruments Inc. of Los Angeles California and is marked' Professional Model 107B. The darn thing has the original price tag of $ 139.50 still attached to the face as seen in picture 4. Even the original pamphlet shows the same price in photo 5. Included is a bunch of old paperwork from the Division of Mines again back in 1954. Does it work? Well. I took pictures of the insides and it looks to be pretty clean and even the old batteries still look good with the exception of the top of one of them in photo 8 but I could not get it to fire up. The son said that he could not remember the last time it was used but ... moreit had to have been" Many Years Ago" and that his dad always cared for his toys. The probe looks to be in good shape along with the earphone and carrying strap. An Inovision 451P pressurized ion chamber hand held radiation survey meter. The LCD display has an analog bar graph. Digital readout, low battery and freeze mode indicators. Controls include an On/Off button and Mode button. There is a RS-232 connector for direct connection to a computer and it runs on two 9V batteries(not included) Bright and fresh pristine condition. But not knowing its history I’m calling it used. However, it really looks like new-never used to me. There is not a spec of dirt or wear to be found anywhere, even the wrist strap remains wrapped up by the factory. No scratches or dings and all surfaces are fresh and clean. 1 X 1" NAI(T1) scintillation crystal radiation detector scintillator
1 X1" NAI(T1) scintillation crystal salvaged from a Ludlum probe in good usable condition tested working very well. There is a slight separation of the crystal from the face glass that doesn't degrade it enough to worry about the light still comes through it just doesn't look perfect. When removed several years ago I took a photo and compared to today there has been ne degrading it is stable and the crystal is clear with no yellowing.

This is an Ludlum Model 16 with 44-9 Pancake probe in good working condition. This unit is a step up from a Model 2 or Model 3 and contains additional front panel settings for High Voltage. Threshhold, Window, and a Window IN/OUT toggle switch.The unit may be used as a standard ratemeter like the Model 2 or Model 3 by setting the"Window IN/OUT" switch to"OUT" This unit can be used with any type of detector probe and is ideal for use with a scintillator. The high voltage is adjustable from 200 volts to 2.5Kv. This unit has four ranges: X1. X10, X100, and X1000. Note: The meter dial does not have a white spot as seen in the photo. It uses an pump to move air through an inlet at 1L/min to a filter holder that traps the Radon daughter products. After 30 minutes from a start the alphas from the first daughter and others thereafter start showing up and are counted for up to 24 hours. It's run times can be set to.5. 1, 2, 4, 8, 24 hours then it stops counting. The photo with the 1377 reading is 24 hours in my basement which has an unreasonable amount of ore in it. Even so that reading is just a little above acceptable limits since the basement is well ventilated. The detector is solid state. There are enough extra filters to do 90 residences, an AC wall wart, a flowmeter to measure air flow ... morewhich is adjustable and a nice carrying case. This item is in like new condition. But sold as used to protect the innocent. I have not changed the present filter(it's an easy job) because after a day or two with the pump off the only remaining daughter is Pb210(Bad News) with a 22.3 year half life. Alpha counts are used because it's designed for European standards. Working Level" is the term, pico-Curies is North American standard as is Bq/Meter^3. It's a simple mathematical calculation to convert counts to any of the aforementioned and id described in a PDF of the manual provided.
