BEAUTIFUL ANTIQUE YORK VAULT SAFES - CHEST OF SIX - CIRCA 1857
Unique custom-crafted antique steel safe chest from the main vault of the Plymouth Five Cent Savings Bank built in downtown Plymouth. MA in 1857. Designed and built by the York Safe and Lock Co. of York Pennsylvania, this vault chest houses six individual dual-combination locking safes- two measuring 12"h x 24"w x 23.5 deep and four measuring 12" x 12" x 23.5" deep. The safe doors are 2" thick. The chest frame itself is made of 7/8" steel and measures 51" w x 43.5"h x 24.5" deep. It has a removable 1/8"thick steel kick plate that measures 50.5" x 18" Each safe is attached with 2.5" x 3.5" brass hinges; the combination locks are brass, and the handles are brass and bakelite. The elegant craftsmanship and attention to detail is most evident in the beautifully etched ... moreblack steel framework, the bright hammered brass lock boxes, and the 7/8" polished steel locking pins on the inside of each door(see photos) The interior of each safe has been painted green and show paint wear. The polished steel exterior shows normal use as protected by the massive outer vault door. The top of the chest is protected by a removable black mat. They sit on a frame which could be used to hold both sets for a single band or discarded for another use. Sounds crazy I know but I thought of kitchen cabinets! We have two of these chests available. Think of the possibilities- security. Novelty, functionality! As you can see from the photos. Some of the doors have been removed; the others are locked in place and will require a locksmith to unlock. Two antique cast iron coin bank safes 1911 and 1886
This auction is for two original cast iron antique bank safes. The first one says safe on the front does not say anything besides that and has a patent date of june 2 1886. It is in very good condition for its age still has the nickel plateing on it. Does not have the key. The door is unlocked. The lock is very simple it takes a small skeleton key. It has a rough jagged edge on the back above where the coin goes. Besides that and missing key I have not seen a bank this old in such great condition a wonderful addition to a collection or great display piece. The other bank is a kenton brand with a patent date of augest 22 1911 it is a combonation safe which I have the combo to. It is very beautiful cherub design it was a chip in the top hinge. The first one is leather wrapped and has two hinged lids with a cutter on the bottom lid and advertising for Schlitz and Milwaukee on the sides. The leather wrapping is worn thru at spots and the metal parts also show wear but both lids and the cutter function properly. Stamped on the inside of the hinged lid with the cutter is what looks like Wm Schimper& Co. Hoboken. N.J. The second one has advertising for John Hauck Brewing Co.
