Rare Gamewell Cast Iron Backing Plate For Alarm Box
This is a cast Iron backing plate for Gamewell& SAFA cottage style alarm boxes. These were made for the back of alarm boxes that were sitting on a pedestal. I bought this in Philidelphia about 30 years ago. This is a very old heavy casting and has the normal crude casting look. The lettering and border are raised. No chips or cracks. These are very hard to find. Looks great on an alarm box or just hanging on your wall. 17" x 12 1/2" at the widest part. 13 lbs. Shipping quoted is by Fedex. So you can't have a P.O. This does not affect how the box sits. It's perfectly level. I haven't tried to clean it. The working mechanism winds and runs when the lever is pulled. This is a very nice BLUE Police Call Box Light. It was used on Gamewell and other brands of Police Call boxes. It measures 10" long and weighs 2 1/2 pounds. It has a porcelain light socket with wires. It has a clear glass light cover and a protective cage. It has been repainted Navy Blue and it comes with a BLUE light bulb. It is wired for 110 A/C voltage(household current) There is a 1/2" pipe nipple in the bottom for mounting to the top of the call box. For your pleasure this Used antique fire alarm system made by the Gamewell Co. Marked on tag Oct.13.1899 and Jan.21.1902. Comes with 10" station gong bell, Original key for rewinder and register, No gong bell key. Also original punch out paper waste cup solid brass. All 3 with winder springs in working condition. Can't test relays to see if operable, leave that up to buyer. Gong has a 11" cast iron base and a 10" brass gong. Register measures 9 1/2" long X 4 3/4" wide on the cast iron base Brass and glass part of unit measures Just under 8" long X 3" wide. Height from bottom of base to top glass is 7" With tape reel 10" high. Rewinder measures from top of reel to bottom cast base 7 1/4" tall. Cast base measures 5" X 2" Both paper tape reels measure 5" in dia. ticker tape ... moreis 1" wide. Paper cut out collection cup measures 1 5/8" tall X 1 1/2" dia. Winding bat wing key is 3 5/8" long by 2 3/4" wide. Not an expert on these systems but have done research to get to know items and how they're used. Unit comes with original paper catch cup and bat wing key. Gamewell Fire Alarm Box Pull Station. Great fire box from the early 1900's. Its the great old cast iron type when they were still manufactured in New York. Its been completely restored. The outside is in wonderful condition. The old cast iron type have great character. Pitting overall to the metal. It was taken down to bare metal. Primed and painted. There are no cracks or damage. The T-Handle works smooth and the door closes properly. The box number marker is original to the box. Its the old pewter style. All the lettering has been painted with attention to detail. Inside the alarm mechanism box is original to the box and the telegraph wheel matches the box number. The box closes properly and has the inner locking mechanism. I do not have the inner lock key. The telegraph mechanism works well. All the electrical hardware has been polished ... moreand looks great. It will also come with the porcelain at the bottom of the inner box. Chicago Transit Authority CTA Railroad Police Emergency Gamewell Alarm box fire
Rare Rare Rare! The cast iron heavy Chicago Transit authority installed these third rail cutout emergency alarm boxes in 1943 through out the subway tunnels and subway stations. This box was located in the tunnel just South of Chicago Ave. downtown. These are very hard to find in any condition. This box was made by Gamewell the same company who manufactured fire alarm boxes for all the major cities. This box was pulled to immediately shut down a section of third rail electric power and send two rounds of a codes number signal to the supervisor who would then alert a CTA emergency worker and supervisor to respond to the scene. When you pull the hook on this box. It ticks and the code wheel sends the two rounds 1 2 8 and the lever strikes the cut out coil switch to shut down the power to the third rail at the same time. The box tranmited the ... moresignal to the Merchandise Mart where the CTA had a dispatch center with a Gamewell register to receive the signal. These boxes were removed in the late 1970s never to be seen again. The box is in very good original condition EXCEPT for the damage to the back of the box when it was removed off the walls of the subway shown in the photo which when displayed it is hard to see. Antique Gamewell Fire Alarm Tickertape Machine & Reel Being Sold (AS IS)
I bought this machine recently because I thought it was an ingenious 19th century mechanical machine. I am selling it(as is) because one end of the beveled glass under the reel is broken please see photos. The other two glasses are perfect. One of the end glasses looks cracked. It is not. It is a slot for the teletype paper. The spring on this machine is sound and not broken. When I apply pressure on the crank. There is a lot of resistance. My years of clock repairing tells me this. I do not know if it runs or how to run it. It weighs approx. 45 lbs. Measuring 16' wide with the wheel on and 14' tall from the bottom to the top of the wheel. Up for auction is a Gamewell Fire Alarm Station. Looks to be a wall mount or a cabinet mount. As you can see it has a number above it(313) which taps out when the handle is pulled down. I have no keys for this unit, so it is being sold as is. Please note that the front door is missing the handle at the top that is used to pull the door down so you can activate it. Here for auction is a vintage Fire Alarm pull box. Measures approx. 8 x 10 x 6.5” it appears to be complete. While I am not able to get it open to see the insides. Up for sale is a vintage crouse hinds explosion. Vapor proof light fixture. This type of light was used in the 40s through early 70s on all types of call boxes. It comes(as pictured) blue globe. White painted cage and blue solid metal base with the porcelain electric parts inside. Also included is the 1/2 extension that threads to box.
