This is an original 19th century(fourth quarter) eight day brass carriage clock with an alarm. The case. Not including the handle measures 3" x 2.5" x 4.25" The top and all sides are crafted out of beveled glass all of which are is fine condition being free of any cracks or chips. The dial is enamel. The clock works, it ticked happily away for days after a partial wind. It's currently loosing 15 minutes every 24 hours which should be a simple adjustment of the S/F indicator. There are no markings, however, the piece is almost certainly French. There is a period correct key present but it is not original to the piece. A pleasing timepiece. WELCOME TO ROCK BOTTOM RESCUE! Recently rescued from an Estate Auction When it hits ROCK BOTTOM. I rescue. DESCRIPTION#699: A wonderful BLUE and CREAM PORCELAIN dresser or desk clock. Adorned with pink purple pansies and green leaves, accented in gold gilt. Looks as if it belonged to a fine lady, just so elegant and ornate. Porcelain case: Very old looking, the top finish is heavily crackled(crazed) One shallow chip on right top area, only a sliver and the gold gilting, so shallow that a touch up of gold there would make it invisible. Victorian in design, colors of aqua blue, cream, pink, purple, green, and gold accents. Says"MAY" on the back with a few flourishes around it. I assume meaning the month? One hairline crack on back of case near alarm wind, extends about 3/4" and stops, does not extend to side. Another tiny hairline ... moreup a little further, See Photo of this. Clock itself has no identification as to maker. The movement too is very old but I do not know if this is the original clock movement. It looks perfect and fits correctly but the clock itself is a little loose and turns a little in the cavity. My guess is it was taken out of the case at some time to fix the movement itself and it was not put back in securely. It does not come out of the cavity. But it"turns" a little. Dial has some slight discoloration. Unevenness. One brown age spot by the"5" This is an alarm clock. The clock DOES tick when wound. There are knobs on the back that wind the clock time, the alarm winder, and knobs for setting the alarm which is by a second hand on the dial face of the clock. The alarm setting needle is just one gear with needle, above the number"6" without any actual numbers for setting, you are just approximating your wake up time by imagining the 12-3-6-9-spaces and going from there. When I set the alarm and then tested to see if the bell would ring, it DOES, and LOUD too. I cannot make any claims as to the running of this clock. If it is accurate, etc. I can only say it
