The unit flashed 355 error code, which we believe means the NVRAM battery inside needs replacement. We cleared the error, then used the probe to view the calibration signal from the scope. It displayed the expected value on our test scope. We went through all current ranges on the AM503B, and they all produced the correct output. No further testing was performed. This amplifier was designed as a power booster for the Motorola Convert-a-com docking station for Motorola handheld radios but may be used as a standalone amplifier. This UHF amplifier is available covering several different frequency bands extending down to about 400 MHz and up. This model is tuned for 450 to 470 MHz band. I tested this amplifier and measured approximately 32 watts output with input power of 3 watts(10 dB gain) from 440 to 450 MHz ham band. NOTE: If you overdrive this amplifier it will be damaged.do not apply more than 4 watts input power! Operates on 13.8V DC and incorporates automatic T/R switching. 1 KW HEAVY DUTY HOME BREW HF AMPLIFIER DECK FEATURING THE 3-500ZG BUILT by W4USR I have just signed off 20 meter CW running at the 800 watt output level with this heavy duty 3-500Z HF amplifier. I have a collection of RF amplifiers I have built since retirement and the radio room floor is about to cave in. Time to find a new home for some of these home brew RF machines. I bought the basic amplifier in a much different configuration a few years ago at the Raleigh HamFest. I completely disassembled the entire amplifier and cleaned and repainted all the metal work. Then a rebuild with amplifier parts accumulated over the years. I first ran a 4PR400 at the 5KV level running a solid 1KW output. I am now using a 4KV power supply with the RF Parts. 3-500ZB in the amplifier. One could easily run a 4-400 in GG or a 3-400. This deck is forced air cooled ... morewith a pressurized chassis and the Eimac glass chimney. You will notice the heavy duty large spacing components. The deck will take up to 5KV. All the switching and power control is built in. There is a two conductor pin out jack that provides 110 vac output to control an external power supply. Also it has a front panel operate/stand-by switch. This RF deck offering is complete including the 3-500ZG and two pin external switching plug. All the antenna changeover and biasing system is complete inside the amplifier. Oh, you will notice the toggle switch on the rear. This is a bias switch for SSB or CW. Simply add one of your power supplies with DC voltage in the range of 2200 vdc to as high 5KV and you are on the air with a serious 10-80 meter RF amplifier. 50 mhz Class C RF Power Amplifier with Heat Sink
This Item is a class C Power Amplifier and heat sink removed from a 110 watt 42-50mhz commercial fm two-way radio. I have tested the radios at up to 54mhz. Which is the top end of the 6 meter Ham band, and they worked at full power with out being modified. The specs on the amplifier goes to 125 watts in the manual, so I would say that the output can likely go much higher than the rated 110 watts. The input power to the board is listed as being 1 to 2.5 watts for full power output. If some one wanted more power, two or more units could be combined using a simple coax power combiner. Just needs two sets of two pieces of rg59 coax cut to 1/4 wavelength, one set before and one set after. This could easily get 250 watts with 2 to 5 watts input power. Also, the same transistors are used from 30 to 50 mhz. The boards are same for 30 to 36mhz radio ... morewith only with a few different capacitors and coils. The broad band output transformer would likely work from 2mhz to 60mhz. So, it should be easy to make this board work on any frequency from 2 to 60mhz simply by changing the coils and capacitors. A schematic for the board from the service manual of the radio will be provided. The amp needs 12 to 15 volts DC at some where over 15 amps for full power. Which, by the way, I would put a good fan on it to run full power. I left the metering cable on the amp. It is not needed for operation, but can be used for testing. Some of the pictures shown are of the board removed from the heat sink. Which the board and the parts on it could be used for building or repairing any kind of RF power amplifier. The heat sink measures 10 inches wide by 6 inches deep by 2 inches tall. Feel free to ask questions.
