High purity germanium detector. Ortec GEM streamline series Approximate efficiency is 15% according to the custom with HPGe detectors. This is a well-used and well-loved Ortec HPGe detector that I refurbished to meet my gamma spectroscopy needs. I've now upgraded to a larger detector and am selling this one. But it is very capable as the diverse spectra in my photo gallery illustrate. All HPGe detectors require periodic re-pumping due to diffusion of atmospheric gases into the cryostat, and most of the time that job requires that you have a special ~$2000 valve operator or sometimes two if the cryostat/ detector head has multiple vacuum volumes. My modification may look lame, but it saves you that hidden ownership cost and makes it easy to pump this motherfu*ker whenever you want. The system is being sold in evacuated condition. Bias is +3000V according to spec. Its sweet spot(best resolution) with the current 2SK152 front-end jfet is close to 2800V. The 2SK152 is a"poor-man's" option costing about $4 to replace and offering reasonable resolution and stability in this detector system. Performance varies from transistor to transistor. This is a nice set up that has a 30L dewar that has a 2 3/8 ID mount with a 17 inch diam. base. 23 inches high which is 20 inches deep inside. The probe part is(17 x 10 inches high) and has a EG&G Ortec model SLP-16220-5 with: CFG: SJ-SLP/DWR-30S and bias volts: 1000 V neg. with glass on the end which has been broken(as shown in the photos) Also.
