Knapp Leader 1910 Reversible Electric Toy Motor
This is a reversing motor. When reversing the polarity on a permanent magnet motor the rotation will change direction. A universal motor will not change direction do to the fact that the polarity between the field and armature stay the same that is why you can use AC or DC. Changing the relationship between the armature and field changes the direction of rotation. So they had to come up with this cool little reversing box. Shopsmith 1 1/8 HP GE Reversible Motor
Shopsmith 1 1/8 HP GE Reversible Motor New Higher Quality Bearings. New External Wiring. New FWD/REV DPDT HD 20 Amp Switch. New ON/OFF HD 20 Amp Switch This motor has been converted by me to operate in both directions. The motor was air pressure cleaned to remove any dust and sawdust. The coil windings shows no sign of ever overheating. Coil windings wires were separated and new wire leads was soldered onto the coil winding wires. Heat shirk tubes was used to insulated the soldered connections inside the motor. The windings and internal wires were sprayed with insulating varnish at both ends of the motor. New higher quality bearings were install on either end of the motor shaft. It was tested for operation for over 4 hours to insure no problems and was very quiet running. The Fan& Floating Sheave vanes(faces) were lightly machined to ... moreremove any wear areas. Scratches and nicks. A bottle of zoom spout turbine oil is included for lubrication of the headstock. This motor has 4 external wire leads. Two to the run windings and two to the start windings. You will need to drill a 1/2" hole 4" from motor pan end and 2" down from top edge for mounting the FWD/REV switch in the motor pan. This should be directly under the speed control dial. You will need to set the motor into the motor pan without any screws and then install the FWD/REV switch before attempting to install the motor in the motor pan. The FWD/REV switch only effects operation upon starting the motor, It has no effect at any other time. It should note that I have converted many Shopsmith m otors for reverse action for many years and have a dedicated shop section just for rebuilding and repairing the Shopsmith motors. Reasons for Dual Direction Operation- You'll enjoy forward or reverse operation for performing bi-directional sanding.
