For auction is a custom made generator set consisting of a 5000W brushed 24-70VDC motor driven by a 250cc Briggs& Stratton OHV engine. The DC motor-generator is type ME709 and is made by Mars Electric of Milwaukee. Mars is now known as Motenergy. Link to the motor specs is found here: This gen set was built for a university engineering hybrid race car to charge a large bank of batteries and was used during testing. The car was never completed for the race so both engine and motor have about 2 hours of operation time. Engine was built in August of 2009. I do not have the fuel tank or original airbox. But they are easily found online. I am listing it for parts/repair because I can not get the engine to stay running. I could get it to start and run for short periods of time but never for longer than 5 seconds. I'm not sure what the problem ... moreis but I dont have time to tear it apart and fix it so bid accordingly. The opening bid is effectively for the generator only and the engine is included free. This generator would be ideal for a bank of storage batteries that are typically charged via PV or wind turbine but occasionally require an additional means of charging. Water Turbines/Generators. I am selling this as a generator; I have not tested it hooked up to power because that's not why I am selling it. I prefer these be used to generate power; not to consume power. So please don't ask what treadmill it came from or whether it will handle a load; I don't know and don't care. I have tested this motor at 12 volts and then full wave rectified line voltage controlled by a Variac. It runs smooth. I will supply a schematic of the test variable speed setup. Motor shaft is diameter 5/8" and a length of 2" Overall motor length is approx 13" I dont know if it can be used as a generator on a wind turbine etc. but when I spin the shaft. Voltage is produced.

Available: Treadmill motor. About 11 inches long and 4.5 inches in diameter, rated at 2.8 hp@ 130 volts DC. I tested the item with 12V battery, turned at a fairly low rpm with lots of torque. The see wires in photo 2. They will need to be spliced/lengthened. Plastic fan will be repaired before I ship it, has a crack in outer area. This would propel a small go kart with maybe 4 batteries. Would be an interesting project. You would have to control the speed with relays adding the voltages, maybe low medium and high, with a clutch of some sort to soften between shifts. These are also used with a diode to generate wind power. I have used rechargeable wheel chair batteries if anybody is interested. Not sure if shipping is allowed on those.
