I bought this spectrum analyser about 15 years ago for a couple thousand dollars. I used to use one just like this in the navy so I guess it dates back to around the early 1980's. Seldom used it. HP Spectrum Analyzer 8553B Series TG2 Plug-In
The HP 8553B is a spectrum analyzer RF section. Which can be used with the 141T(140 Series) spectrum analyzer display section, the 8552A/B spectrum analyzer IF sections, and the 8443A tracking generator/counter. The analyzer is a highly sensitive superheterodyne receiver with spectrum scanning capabilities up to 110 MHz. Output video from the receiver circuits is applied to the CRT in the display section. A signal or group of signals can be analyzed in the frequency domain. Input signals are plotted on the CRT as a function of amplitude versus frequency. The amplitiude of the CRT is calibrated in absolute units of power(dBm) or voltage(µV/mV) So absolute and Controls of the instruments are arranged for easy operation. For wide spectrum analysis. The operator can use a preset scan of 0 to 100 MHz. For more detailed study, the spectrum ... morewidth can be progressively narrowed to.2 kHz, or the scanning capabilities can be eliminated altogether to use the 8553B as a fixed frequency receiver. A bandwidth of 300 kHz is automatically selected for preset scan operation. For variable scan and fixed frequency operation, narrower bandwidths can be selected by the operator.
