This is a nice vintage Headstock Gear Guard with Brass Manufacturers Plates from a Vintage 9" South Bend Workshop Metal Lathe with a 9" swing and 3 foot Bed. It is Serial#55177 Catalog No. 405-Y. Made by South Bend Engine Lathes In South Bend Indiana USA. The previous owner told me it was from 1937 but I don't have verification of that. It comes as pictured- some wear and tear but in good working condition. The original Brass plates are intact. The outside plate reads Size of Lathe 9" 3 Ft. Bed Catalog No. 405-Y. The plate on the edge says South Bend Trade Mark Engine Lathes 9 Workshop South Bend Indiana and has the thread and gear chart. This is in very good condition for its age. Local pick-up available. The Steady Rest could use a light cleaning and looks to be in good condition. Please note: the bed clamp shown mounted was actually sitting next to the steady ... morerest. So I am not 100% certain that this is the original clamp.
