The server is black plastic with a wood handle and holds three stainless steel bowls(each holds about 1 cup) The spoons are also stainless steel, and the three white plastic lids snap on. The original box is in good condition with some fading/yellowing, a few scuff marks, etc. appropriate for its age. The server stands about 7-1/2 inches tall and is just under 9 inches in daimeter. Primitive Wood Kite String Winder Holder PEGGED REVOLVING HANDLE vtg antique toy
Unique Antique Wooden Kite String Winder Holder primitive with vintage PEGGED REVOLVING HANDLE. String winders like this were also often used in gardening to help mark the rows in straight lines. I'm not 100% certain. But believe the"round" dowels are not quite round and therefore not machined. As I run my fingers around the circumference of the dowels(especially the portions in the center) I feel some bumps. In other words. They feel like they may have been POLYGONAL HANDLES that were sanded down to make them smoother and more round. This shows both its age and the craftsmanship of the artisan who may have made this for his own children. It appears that the. The craftsman used a piece of wood and made various small cuts along it's length in an effort to make it somewhat rounded by making it a many sided polygon(like an ... moreoctagon, but with many more sides) After it was finished, the craftsman appears to have sanded down the corners of the polygon to make it more round. Some of the less common feature of this kite winder is: HANDLE in the center of the frame REVOLVES so frame revolves as you turn the other fixed handle. Pegged- Wood pegs in center handle keep handle in frame while allowing it to revolve. Hole in bottom rung of frame to tie Kite string to so you don't lose the string and the kite! This also means that it is"self-winding" where the string winds immediately upon turning the frame. On some others. If you merely tie the string around a rung, the string doesn't necessarily automatically start winding as the string will often slip around the dowel as it is turned(on some models) until you stop it by hand and get it going. Dimensions are roughly 18 inches(end of one handle to the end of the other) roughly 14 inches x roughly 2 inches. Previously Owned- Great Condition- Shows Signs Of Age- Has some scratches.
