Old Original Wendel BYB American Gas Engines Since 1872 Hardcover Book Hit Miss
This is considered the book that all other gasoline engine books are gauged by. It is commonly called the BYB an is"American Gasoline Engines Since 1872" by Charles Wendel. It was published in 1983 and this is a first printing. It is probably the most complete and comprehensive book of manufacturers of engines. It is very detailed and has information about hundreds of companies that built engines. It is heavily illustrated and is definitely a must have for any early engine collector or enthusiast! It measures about 9 x 11 1/4 and has 586 pages. It is in good used condition with minor soiling and some slight damage to the bottom of the spine. These first printing editions are very hard to come by so don' miss your chance on this one. The pictures tell the story. It is a wealth of information! Don't miss it. Good Luck.

Interior pages are dirty/ greasy with finger prints, etc. The front and back covers have much wear and missing paper and folded over corners, dog ears, coffee cup stain on front, etc. I see no date on the catalog. The inside is in very good shape. 11" x 8 1/2" The forth book is by Jeffrey L. Rodengen, The Legend of Briggs& Stratton, hardback. This Auction Is For One Very Nice Old One Cylinder Engine That Was Recently Taken Out Of Service In The Oilfield& Replaced With An Electric Motor And Two Parts Engines That Are 75% 80% Complete But Stuck! These are all three Fairbanks Morse Model Number 208's. The one turns over& it still has good compression when the flywheels are turned over by hand. It is mainly missing the magneto and carburetor but another carburetor is included as pictured. This engine may very possibly be in good running order. Hercules Hit and Miss Gas Engines Set of 3.13/4HP-3HP-6HP restored on truck NICE
I HAVE FOR SALE A set of three restored Hercules Hit and Miss gas engines. They are all mounted on 1 cart. Here are the specs of each engine. 1 3/4HP Hercules Model S SN: 328114 This engine has a HOT WICO magneto. There are no cracks/breaks/welds on this engine that I have found. The original crankguard/muffler/fuel fill are still on the engine. There is also an oiler on the engine. And the engine runs very nice and slow. 3HP Hercules Model E SN: 269552 This engine has a Webster magneto. And I have tested the mag and it is HOT. There are old but nice repairs to the head and pushrod/govenor holder. This will not effect the performance of the engine. There is no oiler with this engine and I have not ran this engine. The engine has not ran for many years and is a little weak on compression. This engine also has the factory muffler/crankguard/fuel ... morefill. 6HP Hercules Model S SN: 340416 This engine has a HOT WICO mag. There is a old but very nice repair to the head. There is also a repair to the mag trip block that mounts to the pushrod. The fuel tank has a small leak on the seam. I have ran this engine and I am very impressed with this engine. It runs extremely slow. The original muffler/crankguard/pulley/large fuel fill are still on the engine. The oiler is also included with this engine. The cart is 128" of total lenght. And has a 88" wheel base. The wheels are 20" in diameter and the rear axle is 47" in width. These engines are a for sure show stopper. I have never seen 3 engines mounted on one cart. I think it is a rarity to find the mufflers. Crankguards and magneto's on all engines. I may seperate these engines in the future is I cannot sell the set. Associated Hit and Miss Restored Gas Engines on Truck 1 3/4HP3HP4HP Mule Team
I HAVE FOR SALE a set of three restored Associated gas engines. They are all mounted on 1 cart. Here are the specs of each engine. 1 3/4HP Chore Boy SN: This engine has the early straight ignitor trip. There are 2 repairs to the detent. A repair to the govenor collar. The factory pulley has a chip out of it. There is also a chip out of the mounting hole for the splash shield. You will still be able to install a splash shield on this engine if you choose to. The rocker arm amy be a recast. I have not ran this engine but see no reason why it woul not start right up with a battery and coil. There is no oiler, muffler or fuel tank with this engine. All these pieces are available here on E-bay with several suppliers. 3HP SN: 512012 I have ran this engine. But see no reason why it would not run with a battery and coil. This is the later style goosneck ... moreignitor trip. This engine has a factory sub base. There is a possible old repair to the head. If so.they have done such a good job I question whether it is a repair or not. There is no oiler, muffler, or fuel tank for this engine. These parts are available here also on Ebay. 4HP Mule Team SN: 407234 This engine has the early straight ignitor trip. It also has a good mag bracket. The mag is missing. But they do turn up on E-bay quite frequently. This would take the 4 bolt magneto. This engine would run just fine on a battery and coil. I see no cracks, breaks, or repairs. There is also a factory Associated straight pulley with a chip in it. This would be an easy repair. I have not tried to run this engine, but see no reason why it would not start right up. There is also a factory splashshield for this engine which is very uncommon to find. There is no oiler, muffler and gas tank on this engine. These parts are available on E-bay also. The cart is 140" of total length. And has a 120" wheel base. The wheels are 20" in diameter and the rear axle is 56" in width. These engines are a for sure show stopper. Set of four cast iron wheels 5" in diameter with an axle bore of 5/8" with a face of 1 3/8" Casting number but my old eyes can't make it out. I sandblasted several coats of paint off so already to paint to your liking. found a hairline crack in spoke two different wheels. Would be great for a model engine or small engine cart.

All turnover& have compression But I have not tried to run them! Engine may need some repairs! One has the long base& the other two are short base But all three bases are different! This auction is for an original catalog from the Alamo Gas. Gasoline and Distillate Engines 1912. These came from a country store and I opened them. There are 36 pages with different types of engine's the company offers. It measures approx. 9" x 7 1/2" These would be great to frame. Pair Fairbanks Z old gas motors. Your getting them in as found condition. One rolls over& one is frozen. Parts may be missing or broken. These are governed fire engines. Many people"generically" call this style& similar hit n miss. Take a good look at the pictures as they are part of my description. Local pickup only in south central KY. Two nice old hit and miss engines. One mfg. by Sattley for Montgomery Wards(s/n 55447) and the other is mfg. by Jaeger Machine Company(s/n 45540) I believe they are around 1920's. Only one magneto is available(WICO EK382735) The engines both turn and have brass oilers and there is no evidence of cracks or welding of any kind. Their may be some parts missing, but the engines are in need of restoration.

Main Crankshaft and Governor Gear for Hit and Miss Gas Engines 99 CENTS NR
You are bidding on these three gears. I believe that the TWO larger gears are main crankshaft gears for small hit and miss gas engines and that the smaller gear is a magneto gear. The smallest main crankshaft gear has a small tight crack(see photo) It could be welded or probably used as is. Largest gear is 3 5/8 OD with1 13/16 dia. hole; smaller crank gear is 2 3/4 OD and1 5/16 inch hole. Mag gear is 2 7/8 with tapered hole. Good usable parts.
