Original 1899 Small Steam Engines and Boilers Hand Book WATSON Hit Miss Model
This is a rather hard to find original book printed in 1899 entitled"Small Engines and Boilers" A manual of concise and specific directions for the construction of small steam engines and boilers of modern types from 5 horsepower down to model sizes for amateurs and others interested in such work. It is illustrated by 30 full page working dimensioned drawings. It is in excellent condition for being 115 years old and is easy to read and use. It surely would be neat to produce an engine like they show in the book! It measures about 5 5/8 x 8 1/8 inches and has 108 pages plus about 30 pages of other Van Nostrand books in the back. It would be a fine addition to your early steam engine paper collection. The pictures tell the story. It would be tough to find a nicer one! You'll like it. Good Luck.

Original. Not a reprint. Dated 1938. 192 tight pages. Lots of info. Also covers serial numbers. Numerical index, magnetos, diagrams etc etc. 9 1/2" x 6 1/2" Cover has soiling and shows some wear on spine cover, but all pages are intact. Pages look great except for just a few have some fingerprints and one is missing the tip of corner. Very good condition for age. See photos. Please email with questions. Hit And Miss Stationary Engines Book is 52 pages with over 125 plus pictures. Sketches and diagrams. The book talks about the Victor and Famous line of engines. But main focus is on the Famous line. There is information about both vertical and horizontal configurations. There is information on Wizard and Webster Magnetos. As well as the Auto Sparker. Goes from the air cooled 1 horsepower Tom Thumb to the huge 50 horsepower 2 cylinder Opposed Engine. There is pictures and descriptions on pump jacks. Sprayer, sawing and generators setups for these engines. There are charts with: Horsepower RPM of engine Regular pulley diameter and face in inches Flywheel ... morediameter and face in inches Capacity of gas tank Capacity of water tank Floor space requires in length. Width& height Shipping weight I would call the book format an advertising for IHC. It reminds me of some of the other books out there about small engines. But with much greater detail since it focuses only on International Harvester. Condition I would call Good for its age. Staples tight No writing or stains on pages No tears to pages There is some coloring to edge of pages that you can see when closed. There are a few pages with these spots also. But this is to be expect in a book that is over 100 years old in my option. Remember you are buying a used book.
