This Spectra Professional cine light meter. Serial number 14871, was manufactured in the 70's by Photo Research. It comes complete with case and all of the original accessories. The foam rubber at the inside bottom of the case has gotten dry and crumbly with age, but otherwise everything is in excellent physical condition. A friend who has a photo studio tested it and reported that it was accurate to within 1/10th of one stop compared to his own equipment. And there is a calibration screw on the back to fine tune it. INCLUDING NECK STRAP This meter was all new in the late 1940's. It was smaller than the DWs. Designed to fit into the palm of the hand, with a small meter window on top and a very large calculator dial in the center. The big feature is what marketing called"the meter with a memory! aka needle lock. This is the oldest meter with that feature. So it may be the first. Needle locks hold the needle in place until you release it for a reading, and ... morethen holds it again. For the photographer, it allows you to point the meter for a reading, then look at the meter in a more comfortable position. Holding the needle down also protects it a little from bumps and shocks. Another feature is the internal high-low range setup. It uses a mechanical system to limit the light(as opposed to using electronics to change the readings) in the form of a shutter between the photo cell and the window. When set to High. The shutter is partially closed and limits the amount of light. When Low, the shutter is opened to let in more light. Most other meters required the user to physically change something, like moving the baffle on the Weston Masters, dropping a perforated slide over the cell on a Norwood Director, or swinging a door open(or shut) as on the GE DW series or the Sekonic L-VI. On this one you just turn the dial and it switches automatically when you reach one end of the range or the other. But really. This exposure meter was the workhorse of many photographers. It was popular because it is small and easy to handle with one hand. It measures 3 inches x 2.5 inches x 1.5 inches without the leather case. All the numbers on the scales are crisp the dial turns easily. The leather case shows surprisingly little ware for it's age. The neck strap is black with flex of gold thread.

Vintage Weston Master Universal Exposure Photo Light Meter, Model 715
This is a fully functional Weston Universal 715 vintage light meter from the 1940s. Because of it's age(and my comparatively limited knowledge of traditional photography) Absolute accuracy cannot be guaranteed however I've tested it in a variety of lighting situations at different settings and it responds accordingly. The body is black bakelite housed in a brown felt-lined leather case with a long neckstrap. As far as history is concerned, it was manufactured by Weston Electric Instrument Corp of Newark, NJ from 1939-45 and, at the time, was considered one of the best amongst professional photographers. While obviously very old and used, the unit is in exceptionally good condition. There's some minor scuffing on the leather case however the unit itself is free from even minor damage. Vintage Photography Equipment Here is a vintage.Light Exposure Meter.that comes from my Grandmother's Estate. This is a Weston 853.Direct Reading Exposure Meter.that probably dates to the 1950's or 1960's. It seems to be in very nice condition overall. I held it next to a lot of light.and it looked like the needle worked fine. There is some cracking to the binding of the leather case.
