This is a double roller production press. This press was built to work! The cast-iron arms have built in Greece valves. The highest point of the press on the stand is 46 inches. Just the press is 24 inches high including the handle. The press is 25 inches wide including the handle and 21 inches deep with the platen open. The feet on the base are 16 x 20. Kelsey Excelsior 5x8 Mercury Model P Letterpress B52F
The serial# of this press is B52F which translates into a 5x8 size press manufactured in June of 1952. This press has been completely dis-assembled and stripped down to the cast iron. All cast iron parts have been painted with 2 coats of primer. 2 coats of color and a clear coat. Mating surfaces have be masked as to allow proper contact when re-assembled. The raised type in the press castings have been detailed with gold paint. All pivot rods have been thoroughly cleaned and lubricated upon re-assembly. The press is mounted to an oak base that has been stained and coated with a satin polyurethane. The mounting screws are new and made of stainless steel. There are 4 rubber feet secured with new stainless screws to the underside of the base to keep the press from walking while printing. This press has new rollers with new locking trucks and ... morea new stainless gripper bar spring. I have added an extension onto the chase bed latch as to keep the gripper latch spring from abrading the finish on the press frame. The chase bed latch spring is new and made of stainless steel. Press has been balanced and test printed using the rollers that are included with the press to print the card in the photos. There is.050 packing under the tympan and additional sheets of packing are included with the press. This will allow you to adjust the packing to compensate for different stock calipers without having to re-balance the press. The platen back adjusting screw. Here I have an awesome. WW2 era(I believe) Ideal Stencil Machine Number 1. It makes 1" stencils out of oilboard/cardstock. The machine is complete and does make stencils. It punches strong and prints evenly. The gears that turn the wheel are very brittle. see last photo) They also slip sometimes while turning the wheel(I'm guessing they just need to be tightened) As brittle as they are I do not know how long they will last. But for now they work. And they look like easy gears to get replicated. Other than that. The machine is in incredible shape for how old it is! Selling a 1949 Chandler& Price Craftsman printing press. We bought this with the goal of restoring it to use for our stationary business. But we ended up also restoring a Heidelberg Windmill, so we gave up on the C&P. It's got a 10x15 platen and includes 2 chases. We don't know a lot about this machine. It has an electric motor. But would need a new belt as the lether one that came with it is torn. It will also need rollers. The ones that came with it are badly pitted and will definitely not work. If you have any questions. We'll try to answer them. Also. Ebay has a confusing shipping policy, but we definitely WILL NOT ship this machine. It's been a great press for our letterpress shop but I am needing to get rid of some equipment to make room for other presses. Press can handle 15x24" sheets of paper and can handle 14.5x23.5" forms and comes with basically new rubber rollers. They have been lightly used. Press plugs into a standard 110v wall outlet. This press was the higher end of Challenge proof press and comes with some neat automatic features. This press also has the original adjustable form clamp to adjust for longer or shorter forms.
