Wood Printer's Block Steam Train- Baggage 1920s-1930s ~ITEM DESCRIPTION~ Here is a great printer's letterpress wood block-showing an old steam train. Locomotive and several baggage cars, with trunks and baggage piles piled outside. The train sports the initials"EC&P" but I cannot find any rail line with those initials. So the name was probably concocted by the artists who made the engraving. I am guessing by the wood block and engine style this dates to the 1920's, maybe 1930s. The block is 4" wide and 2" tall. You are bidding on an ANTIQUE CAST IRON BALTIMOREAN#10 PLATEN LETTERPRESS PRINTING PRESS. This letterpress is in excellent condition with no breaks. It's missing it's roller, ink circle pad and base, with those three pieces it would print just fine. A Great Display Piece.

Antique Kelsey Excelsior 3 x 5 Inch Letterpress Printing Press + Bonus Typeset
Up for auction is a really cool antique 3 x 5 inch Excelsior printing press by Kelsey& Co. of Meriden. Connecticut. Also a set of very fancy font type in a wooden type set box. One picture illustrates how ornate the lettering is, it reminds me of calligraphy. I don't know the letter model of the press for sure so I will describe everything in detail in conjunction with the many pictures I provided. It weighs 24 pounds and is made of cast iron with a black coat of paint and some painted gold lettering as well as a couple gold designs. The base measures 11.5 inches, the entire press is roughly 20 inches long including the protruding part behind the plate and the plate diameter is 5 7/8 inches. The patent date states is was patented April, 6, 1893. The'9' digit is hard to make it and I can't be positive that t is a'9' ... morebut I believe so)Following that there are patent numbers for England, France and Germany. The pictures should include enough angles so you can see all of the hardware. The press opens and closes like it should. But the rectangle that should hold the type tilts slightly and the two rectangles aren't perfectly parallel when the handle is pressed down and they separate. However, when you close the press they eventually become flush but it doesn't make initial square contact. It appears something just needs to be tightened or adjusted(pictures 4& 5) The sections where the rollers should be pivot down over the plate when the handle is pushed down. The plate spins freely when I move it but operating the press doesn't rotate it automatically. Condition: This was stored in a barn for decades. It needs a little TLC. You can plainly see there is plenty of surface rust but the black coat of paint over the cast iron is largely intact. The rust isn't deep or pitted, just on the surface. Some of the gold lettering and detail has worn or rusted over, but again it is largely intact. Cosmetically the iron is in wonderful condition and the mechanics seem to be functioning.

Antique Nik Nac Shelf. Printers Tray, Letterpress Drawer Typeset This is an antique solid wood type set. Printers drawer or tray that can be used as a wonderful nic nak shelf. It is very solid wood. Probably oak with a different wood, solid piece backing. It is about 1 3/8" 16.5" tall and about 21.75" wide. The compartments are: 1"x 2.5" 1 1/8 x 1.25" 2.25" x 2.75" 2.5" x 4.25" and about.75" deep. This is quite heavy as it is very solid. Looks great displayed tall or wide. There is a thicker long side. This was the front of the drawer, which was a drawer pull. It has a dark brown varnish on it and some old labels. There are bits of tape with characters on the little dividers. Antique Palmer & Rey letterpress foundry type set 18 point complete late 1800's
A 18 point set of Palmer Rey lead linotype letterpress type. I took the time to hand sort it all out. Approx 16lbs of it and at this size it is alot of type, and maybe its several sets combined as many of the bags I have seperated it all out into have 50+ individual letters in them. Both upper and lower case, letters all sorted, numbers sorted, the punctuation and such markings are not sorted and in one bag. As for as the lowest numbers I noticed, on the G upper case I only counted 2 which was the lowest individual letter or piece that I observed in the entire lot. the bag below is shim spacer stock that was in the tray when I removed the set from it.
