But the shaft seems to be loose inside the unit. Also, in the A INTEN sweep mode the A trace seems to stop at the end of the B trace, not a big deal but think it should continue to the end of the screen(see next to last photo) The last photo is the B timebase ALT function(which looks like it works fine) Screen is nice and bright with good focus and no burns. Vintage US Navy OS-8G/U Oscilloscope Scope -- VERY CLEAN needs minor repairs
You are bidding on a super clean US Navy OS-8G/U oscilloscope in partial working order. The OS-8GU is the last(and in my opinion the best) of the series of OS-8 scopes built for the Navy in the 1950's and early 1960's. This little scope measures just 14 inches by 7 inches by 9 inches and weighs under 15 pounds. It comes in a solid aluminum case(last photo) with shock mounts inside(photo 1) The scope uses a 3RP1 CRT. But unlike the earlier versions the OS-8G/U is otherwise entirely solid state. It is simply beautifully constructed(photo 3) The side panels open with four screws to allow quick access to the inside for adjustment or repairs. Under a hinged back panel are jumpers that allow very versatile connections to the CRT deflection electrodes(photo 4) The controls are very well laid out(photo 2) This particular OS-8G/U is serial ... morenumber A542. Built by Philadelphia Scientific Controls for the Navy(photo 6) Cosmetically this one is in near mint condition(see photos) Hardly a mark on it. This scope generates a clear bright trace when fed by external signals. But there is something wrong with the horizontal amplifier circuit. As the horizontal position control is turned to move the trace from the left side of the screen to the right side, the trace first shrinks to zero width in the middle, then expands as a reflection on the right side of the center line. The built-in sweep is also not working, probably due to the same cause. The vertical amplifier is working perfectly. I've seen this kind of problem in other scopes, and it's not too hard to repair. I believe the manual for this scope can be found on the web, but I do not have one. If you are looking for a really well built small portable analog scope for servicing electronic equipment that doesn't require a high bandwidth. This is an excellent choice. Flat Face 5" CRT, Type 5DEP1, International Electronics, use with 'scopes
This auction is for one(1) IEC Type 5DEP1 CRT. It is in excellent. But untested, condition. A word about this tube: I acquired it from a friend who bought it from the estate of the late W9VSU, Ed Derversian. Ed was well-known in the Chicago area as having been the last lab tech for Dr. Lee DeForest, inventor of the triode vacuum tube. I knew Ed fairly well, but was not able to attend the sale of his estate. This tube has its factory box, and Ed had put a label on the top which said"New" However, I can not sell it as new because of one difficulty: The tube type number was apparently applied as a stick-on label, not ink-stamped onto the glass or tube base. The label is missing(see photos) but should have been laying in the box if the box was still factory-sealed. With the label missing, I can not sell as being a new-old-stock item. ... moreIt is therefore listed as"used" but may very well be unused- no way for me to know. Unfortunately, the factory seal tape was broken. As you can see from the photos. The glass envelope is in excellent condition. This is a true flat face CRT, 5" face diameter, using electrostatic deflection. It is electrically the same as the 5DEP2, which was used in Knight, and other, brands of oscilloscopes. The difference is in the phosphor, with both the P1 and P2 phosphors being medium persistence(ideal for"normal" oscilloscopes) but the P1 gives a green trace and the P2 gives a blue-green trace. I recently sold a Knight KG-635 scope which used the P2 CRT. But anyone having one of those(or a similar scope) could use this P1 CRT just as well. This tube would be an excellent choice for anyone needing a vintage tube of this type to restore vintage equipment from the 1950s thru 1970s or as a working spare. It is in excellent physical condition(see photos) But is untested because I no longer have a scope which uses this type. Our Boy Scout Troop received a donation of an RCA Model WO-56A 7" Oscilloscope. It is fairly clean. And appears to work-that is it lights up when I plugged it in. A green spot appears and the controls seem to work. BUT-I don't know anything about oscilloscopes and can only say that it appears to work. Here are some basics on this model. I am guessing that the unit is complete. It appears as if a very quiet cooling fan was added to the rear of the item. I would prefer a pick up. Rather than shipping. A cord, 9-14PF Probe 1M HP Probe, BNC Tee, short BNC Cable, operator manual and front cover are included. It triggered very stable with excellent quality trace and stability. Overall excellent working condition, very good cosmetically. The only issues found are the removable front protective cover is cracked and the Probe does not have the ground clip included.
