UNUSUAL TRAVELLING THERMOMETER WITH REAMUR & CELCIUS SCALES AND A SPIRAL BULB
You are looking at a travelling thermometer calibrated in the both degrees Celsius and the rare. No longer used Réaumur scale. The thermometer folds away into its leather effect covered case with working brass catch some 5” x 1 3/8” in size. The leather effect shows some signs of age as you would expect. But it’s in overall good condition. The thermometer folds out to form a triangle as shown in the photos and the lid is lined in crimson silk. The thermometer itself is mounted on a milk glass beveled base 4 ¼” long and ¾” wide. Instead of the usual bulb there is a beautiful 3 wrap spiral chamber and as can be seen the thermometer is calibrated in degrees Celsius and degrees Réaumur. In the Réaumur system the freezing point of water was zero. Just as in the Celsius system. However boiling point of water was 80° ... moreRé. As you see in the photo 40° Ré corresponds to 50°C and the thermometer appears to be accurate. The zero degree point is marked with the letters E P. Could this be freezing point in German(Eis Punkt) which would place the origin of this thermometer in Germany? I would date this thermometer as late 1800s. The Réaumur scale saw widespread use in Europe. Particularly in France and Germany as well as Russia, as referenced in works of Dostoyevsky, Tolstoy, and Anoka, but by the 1790s, France chose the Celsius scale for the metric system over the Réaumur measurements. Its only modern use is in the measuring of milk temperature in cheese production. Post and packing at cost depending where you are in the world. See the prices in the listing. Machine is from the 30's- 50's Era I believe. Possibly pre wold war two era. Back when all things were made well with pride& care taken. The machine is made of heavy-duty metals. With what appears to be Bronze, copper& Brass parts included. Appears to be in functional working order excepting the inker Pen tip is dry& will need to be reinked& resolderd. As the very tip that marks the graph papers has seperated. Appears like a very easy& simple solder repair to fix. The machine is believed to measure& record ambient tempatures& humidity over long time periods& chart them. There is a large brass clock movement tumbler inside with a ... morekey wind up which is believed to be an eight day clock movement from my research done. When wound it ticks like a quartz clock will. It also has an adjustment for slower or faster movement to make accurate time keeper. From my research I also learned that real hair strans are used to calculate the humidity, I'm not knowledgable of how any of this works exactly myself, but someone who studies, or has knowledge of meteorological studies would be able to have best knowledge of the workings of this machine. VINTAGE 1950'S COCA COLA BOTTLE SHAPED THERMOMETER 16 1/2 INCHES TALL WITH ORIGINAL GLASS THERMOMETER THAT WORKS AND IS ACCURATE AS FAR AS I CAN TELL. CONDITION Very Good Vintage Condition. The top 3/4 of the thermometer is in excellent condition with a few small scratches around that area. The bottom 1/4 has some damage to the bottom edge of the sign with a little paint loss and some heavy wear and paint loss around the bottom hang hole. There is some rubbing marks on the lower left side and a small ding and scratch to the left of the 10 degree mark. There is some surface rust around the back of the sign. This is really a great"Have A Pepsi" cola advertising piece from the 1960's. Marked M-165; Made in the U.S.A. AAW. The Pepsi bottle cap at the bottom is embossed in the metal. The colors are still nice and bright. 1963 Hershey Pennsylvania Advertizing Thermometer Stumps Garage
Advertising thermometer and calendar for Stump's Garage that was in business in Hershey Pennsylvania in 1963. The print of a young girl and a colt is not faded or damaged. The picture is protected by clear plastic. The gold-colored frame has a few spots of tarnish. Which can be seen if you zoom in on the photos. I purchased this at a farm auction along route 341 between Colebrook and Upper Lawn in the 1980s.

1960's Monroe Shock Absorber Embossed Metal Thermometer Thi s advertising thermometer is made of a embossed metal and is in excelle nt condition. There are a few small paint drips on the item. The largest near the 50 degrees C entigrade area. T here are also some small rust s pots on the top and bottom edges. The thermometer glass is not broken or cracked in any way and keeps accurate temperature. The thermometer measures 26" high by 7" wide. According to other posts for this thermometer on eBay. The glass tube is not filled with mercury. A n alcohol based liquid is used instead- I don't know if that is true or not but it does keep accurate temperature. Measurements are 14 inches by 5 inches. Th is sign has what appears to be a new thermometer tube that keeps accurate temperature. The tube is the correct length(5 inches) V ery minor oxidation on the metal frame. No cracks in the mirr or. At the top of the mirror is a small area with a few blotches.
