This is a wonderful hard to find. Very collectible American Pottery Cookie Jar. Marked Hull 967 and Patent Applied for USA. Glazed inside the head, open basket, this cookie jar was designed by Louise Bauer for Hull, these pieces, produced in the 1940s, were one of the most popular that Hull did. A. E. Hull Pottery was founded in 1905 in Crooksville, Ohio, initially producing stoneware. By 1907, Hull Pottery had already expanded by adding a second plant and had grown to employ over 200 workers. By 1920, Hull was producing a wide variety of quality stoneware, planters, and art pottery, incorporating new airbrushed and blended glaze techniques. In the 1930s, Hull capitalized ... morein the growing interest in art pottery and introduced several lines of matte finish, pastel, and floral items in the shape of vases, planters, ewers, and bowls, most in varying sizes. Their most successful items were the Little Red Riding Hood cookie jars which were patented in 1943 and began an entire new production line of figural kitchen and novelty items which continued well into the 1950s. Although best known for their pastel matte glazed ware, some of the lines were high gloss. Rosella, glossy coral on a pink clay body, was produced for a short time only; and Magnolia, although offered in a matte glaze, was produced in gloss as well. Tremendously successful late 1940s patterns included the spectacular Bow-Knot, Camellia, Dogwood, Poppy and Water Lily. The plant was destroyed in 1950 by a flood which resulted in a devastating fire when the floodwater caused the kilns to explode. The company rebuilt and equipped their new factory with the most modern of machinery, however, it was soon apparent that they would never be able to duplicate the classic matte glazes again. Up for your consideration is a very vintage steel milk can from H. P. Hood& Sons Milk can hold 2 gallons and measures about 13 1/2" tall. The opening is 3 1/2" wide and the bottom is 7 3/4' wide.Milk can weighs about 5 1/5 pounds Nice looking milk can that on the side is a piece that reads in a copper like color. H.P. Hood& Sons. Under that reads in bigger letters 1941 REGISTERED. Also a small piece also copper colored that reads FILL TO THIS POINT. The handle has raised letters with the word HOOD on it. Very little rust on the entire can a few spects on the bottom. Milk can is in very good condition and would make a nice decoration piece for a home or store. Vintage Dark Green Sitting Out Bag with Snap On Hood. Enclosed Bottom. Label reads: Kenwood Sitting Out Bag. Made by Kenwood Mils, Albany, N.Y. Unsure of age. Maybe 1920s? Buttons all there but bag is pretty rough. Has several holes and areas of thinning. Please look at pictures carefully. 7 Buttons down the front. Plus 2 buttons at the top, neck area; hood has snaps. Hood has 2 sizeable holes. One about quarter size, and one about 1.5" plus some minor ones. A very Large Hole on the side of the bag. About 3" plus thinning in the area. The back has several areas with extensive thinning and lines or paths. Probably from moths, they have eaten the wool. Minor holes throughout. It probably could be repaired. You be the judge. LATE VICTORIAN ANTIQUE CAST IRON FIREPLACE SURROUND w/HOOD 22 1/2" x 27 3/4"
Late Victorian era cast iron fireplace opening surround. 27 3/4" high, 22 1/2" wide, inside opening is 16" wide. Foundry style number"40" in raised numbers on the back. Design is simple and geometric with a diamond shape center top, very simplified stylized flowers and foliage on either side. The little arms sticking out in the opening would have been for the summer cover to lean against. There is quite a bit of surface rust and quite a few old crusty coats of paint on this surround. The molding details will be much more obvious with restoration.
