I think you could wear this 30 years from now it would still look fabulous! It is done in a black 100% wool. However. This is soft and fluid, no itch, and feels like a rayon or crepe. It has an underlayer like a slip and then the top layer which has slits up the sides. You can have the shoulder show the slip or adjust it to be even. The dress zips up the back. Women of the 19th Century wore aprons while they worked around the home. Women of status often did not do any of their own domestic labor. But they usually wore cute, delicate, frilly or embroidered aprons such as this, as a lovely accessory for their ensembles or to protect the dress underneath form soils and stains. The fabric of this gorgeous apron is a lightweight. Almost ethereal, black striped and textured muslin that has survived in excellent condition. In our opinion, it is most likely that this gorgeous high quality patterned fabric came from a Regency era dress, which was then re-purposed and was entirely hand sewn into a lovely apron. The whole outfit is in very good used condition with some beautiful seamtress skills to it. There is one whitish actual smudge at the top left front of dress. These aprons are very gently used with no tears stains or other blemishes. I used them for two seasons while I was the pastry chef at Cafe Boulud.
