Unusual and very cool vintage desk piece of a Turkish Pasha or a North African Arab from Morocco or Casablanca made of brass mounted to a marble base with a slot for a pen. The Pasha figurine is depicted with a broad mustache. Wearing a tall fez and traditional loose-fitting Turkish garb, sitting on the ground and reading a book. He's cast in brass with nice detail, and the back is flat. The figurine is mounted to a heavy marble base with a slotted front to hold a pen or pencil. 1800's Wood Case Apothecary Scales With Marble top, home decor
Up for sale is a fantastic old antique apothacary scale. I believe it is from the late 1800's by the way its built and style but dont know for sure. There are no markings that are obvious on it. The wood is in great shape and works great. The pans on the scales have some wear on the nickle plating and some slight corrosion. There appears to be a round stamp in the middle behind the pointers but the engraving on it is not readable. I have tried with a strong magnifying glass and loop and cannot read it. The ink well- pen tray measures 12-1/4" by 6-1/8" It is a 5/8" thick green marble slab with a hollowed pen trough. Mounted brass holders for two matching octagonal glass ink wells with brass covers. The glass inkwells have some chips to the corners, which is expected in an item of this age. I have tried to photograph the worst of these. The brass has a patina commensurate with its age. The base and marble are a unique shape due to the ornately carved columns on each corner of the base. The marble is cut to project out over the top of the columns. The marble has a deep double bull nose edge all the way around giving the affect of 2 pieces of marble. The base has 3 dovetail-jointed drawers with metal pulls. There is a small surface split in the wood where the crown meets the mirrors frame otherwise this piece is in excellent condition. I do not know the maker or exact date it was made. This piece is antique and will not be perfect. The mirror measures 88 7/8 inches tall, 46 1/8 inches side to side and 5 inches front to back. It weighs 74 pounds. The marble measures 11/16 inch tall, 50 3/8 inches side to side and 21 ¼ inches front to back. The marble weighs 62 pounds. Pedestal, some feet) c. 1825 and significantly rebuilt in the 20th Century Item# 12001078208 This is a beautiful decorative work. Crafted using old parts to lend originality and age to the table as it was crafted for a second time during the 20th Century. It features a broad solid black and gray marble top, resting over a new mahogany veneered top with pine plywood secondary woods, attaching to the head of the base with screws from beneath. The pedestal itself appears to be of the period, probably c. 1825, a wonderful gesso decorated and gilt highlighted work of art that is wrapped in a bulbous leafed palmetto formation over a ring turned base. This tenons into the triangular Lion Footed mahogany ... moreveneered base. Most of the feet are rebuilt, though after one original foot to maintain the integrity of the design. While this is not a collector quality work. This is an affordable work with significant character and age throughout. An original Gueridon of this style would be prohibitively priced, making this the perfect selection of a decorator with a budget looking for the depth of an original without the cost. Measurements: 36" wide x 29 1/4" high Condition Report: 1. Severely distressed gilt with exposed and damaged gesso on pedestal. 2. Numerous chips to marble top around the edge(all photographed in the slideshow) 3. Composed of old parts. Meaning portions of this table were originally a period Gueridon table, probably damaged significantly which led to it being overhauled: Round top is not original. Most feet are rebuilt(one looks like it is original) regilded, the top of the pedestal is 20th century, the marble is probably later too. 4. Feet have some mismatched veneer.
