The bottom of each book end has black felt so that the book ends do not do any damage to your furniture. There is a beautiful grain that runs through the marble chosen for these book ends. There is only one small sign of wear and that is on the top of one the book end where it seems there is a small chip- please see photo. Description A large and impressive antique French gilt bronze inkstand and pocket watch holder combination. All mounted atop a base of exquisite green marble, uniquely shaped with a beveled cut edge. Featuring a beautifully casted gilt bronze inkwell decorated with acorns and oak leaves. The hinged lid opening to a glass insert Set against an exquisite reticulated lattice backdrop embellished with a floral basket and intricate scrolling foliage. Having bronze mounts serving as a pen rest. Flanked on either side by two carved marble plinths supporting gilt bronze columns decorated with finely casted flaming torches accented by foliage. Topped by a finely casted Empire style ribbon twined wreath finial, with a hook to suspend a pocket watch or picture. Resting atop three bun feet. Of a large size, standing 11 1/4" tall, measuring 6 3/4" ... morex 5 5/8" at the base. Condition is good with general wear to the bronze work commensurate with age and use. There is a small edge nick to the marble near one of the feet, visible in the close-up picture. There are two holes drilled into the marble base, these are hidden by the inkwell. RARE VINTAGE COMPOTE BOWL MARKED GIM 3117 GOLD ? MARBLE LOOK PEDESTAL NICE!
Beautiful rare fruit pedestal metal fruit compote/bowl marked GIM3177 on bottom. Bowl stands approx 6 1/2" high and 9 1/2" diameter. I am not sure what the metal is. It is goldtone or maybe gold plated? The bottom stand looks like brass with a marble look above. The leaves flair out from the bowl to give it a rare Italian or Victorian look. I am not sure on age or manufacturer but I have not seen another like it. It is in fine shape with the exception of some fine scratches on the top. Great for fruit. ASTRAL/SOLAR LAMP ORNATE FACES COLUMN MARBLE BASE NON ELECTRIFIED
For your viewing from our Astral lamp collection is this wonderful unusual Astral lamp that has a double step marble base and a round etched glass shade. The shade has minor roughness at the top edge with 1 small edge flea bite chip. We have been collecting Astra/Solar lamps for over 40 years and have been thinning our collection of over 13 of them and this one has the most unusual and ornate columns of any lamp we have ever owned. The top of the column has a large face on each side and appears to be some type of mythical character. It then narrows and widens again a this wider point are 2 smaller faces on each side and there is a pleated style head band just below the face similar to those that the early Romans wore in the 15th or 16th century. Then as it spreads out in a square bottom there are 4 more faces at each point with the same pleated ... morestyle collar only under the neck they way early royalty wore in the 15th and 16th century. The rest of the column is filled in with berries and leaves it is amazing how intricate this was made over 130 years ago. The marble base is in excellent condition no chipping or cracks. It has never been electrified but does not retain the original burner it has been replaced with a later oil burner. The height with the shade is 22" the base alone is 13" it has 12 colonial style prisms that are 6" long including the bobeche top and has a 5 1/2" fitter. The upper marble base is 6" lower base is 4" Sometime in its past it appears a very not in the know person put a candle in the oil reservoir and let it melt on the the body and it appears to be burnt wax I did not try to remove it I think with heat in that area it should be easily removed when the shade is on it is not at all noticeable and does not distract from it beauty. PAIR. ANTIQUE, AZTEC INDIAN, BRASS, CANDLE STICKS. Large pair of antique gilted candle sticks. Each candle stick took 7 different Brass casting to create one figurine. The bottom plate. The Aztec’s main body, staff, arrow head, two top embellishments, and the candle holder, all screw together to create one candle stick. Not including the marble base. The Marble base measures 3-5/8” x 5 ½” The overall height is 17 ½” Excellent casting with quality details. In the day were quality came before quantity. Some of the crystals do have minor chips. This is such a ornate piece that my eye is drawn to the Indian and not to a chip in the crystals.

He stares at the beholder. Wild and bold, with an air of spiritual resilience. His hair is adorned with braids that are wrapped with strips of deer hide coated with a turquoise patina. A long feather lost in the back of his hair stretches towards gravity also finished in a turquoise patina. He wears a bone breastplate which was a popular chest ornament or armor. Since the hair-pipe bones were difficult and expensive to obtain, the number of bones ... morein the plate often indicated the wealth of a warrior. Such breastplates were worn on occasion in battle, but could be penetrated easily by an arrow or a bullet, so they were mainly a decorative or medicine item. The sculpture was molded using the archaic method of lost-wax casting with skin tones finished in a brown patina stain for perpetuation. The chief is mounted upon a black marble and is signed by artist Milo. The Art of Lost Wax. Lost wax casting has been around for thousands of years. Yet few people understand how the process actually works. Although mechanization has facilitated the lost wax process of bronze casting. The procedure is basically the same as that used by the Chinese when they first developed the process in the 2nd millennium BC. The Rubber Mold. First the artist creates an original sculpture out of any number of media. Including stone, wax, clay, wood and pottery. Do use wood and other mediums. Here the finished original clay is now complete. The sculptor will take it to the foundry now, get a bid then begin the first stages of the lost wax process.
