Rusty Vintage LOG BOOM SPIKE Chain Logging Ship Boat MARITIME DECOR Nautical
This is a fantastic antique logging spike. That would be a great nautical decor item! I live on Puget Sound, and in the 1800s and 1900s, when loggers cut down many of our forests, they would chain together dozens or hundreds of logs in the water and haul them to the lumber mill. These spikes were driven into a log so that chains could be attached. This one measures about 6 3/8" long, shows plenty of character through it's rust, and a slight bend near tip, due to years of salt water and being beaten into logs with a hammer. Still quite solid! 5/8' x 30 FT Alloy Chain Sling Rigging Tow Logging Lifting Hoist Hooks Vintage
Up for bids is a 5/8" x 30 FT long grade 80 overhead alloy chain sling. It is a Teledyne McKay brand and stamped working load limit(WLL) 16.500 lb at 90 degrees lift. For overhead lifting they use a safety factor of 5 to 1, ratio(5:1) so you can do the math what it would take to break it. This is the last big chain I have left to sell, and it was always my favorite one. Im retiring and cant lift it myself anymore anyway, she weighs in at about 140 LB. I got this chain used in the 70's so it is probably vintage,but I kept it painted over the years to protect it but also to make it more visible so it would not get lost in the woods. I also added a fresh coat of paint before listing. I fixed this chain with two Hammerlok Brand 3/4" connector links so when I didnt need the 30 ft chain I could remove a 10 ft section and connect the ... more2 ends with hooks back to form a 20 ft chain. The master link measures 5 1/2" x 10" x 1" dia. the 5/8 grab hook is about 4 1/2" x 7 3/4" the slip hook is about 6.250" wide and 9.5" long with a min of 2.625" opening. When you dont need the grab hook. It can be slid around the master link out of the way. The 3/4" hammerlok alloy connectors measure about 4-1/4" wide and 6-1/2" long and 7/8" dia. The links do not weaken the chain in any way since they have a working load limit of much more than the chain. A new 3/4" hammerlok link sells for over 100.00 each. The links are easy to remove and join back. One of the links uses the old school coil spring inside the locking collar to hold the pin in place and the other uses a heavy split pin. The only affordable way to ship the chain is to take apart(see last photo) and ship in 3 separate flat rate boxes. Trying to ship the 140 lb in one package woud have to go freight for several hundred dollars. The 1/4" chain shown in photo 2 is for size comparison and not included. Up for bid is a length of(Logging) Chain with two hooks. Overall about 14 feet long. This is an old chain with rust spots and a couple added'links' which I will try to describe and pictures will show. Each of the main links is around 2" long and 7/8" across. Weighs almost 10 pounds. None seem to be perfect ovals(handmade? but not in a defective way. I did not try to pull any heavy weights with this chain. The hooks on each end are both different(size and shape) One end is the smaller and it has" AMERICAN CHAIN CO INC" inscribed and is about 3 1/2" long and 2" wide. About six links from this hook is a connecting link(see picture) that is about 2 3/4" long and 1 3/8" at widest point. About 4 feet from this point is another connecting type link.
