Allsteel/General Fireproofing Company steel desk. Very Rare. I have been told that it was made somewhere between 1910 and 1915. Desk is in excellent shape for its age. I believe that it holds its original color but has had some paintwork done since new as there are signs of tape joints noticeably on the pull out trays. I would rate the black top material.not sure what it is. A 7 out of 10 as it does have indentation marks from items setting on desk for extended periods of time. Solid brass.yes solid, not plated handles, desk top edging and locking mechanism. I have polished one of the handles to show its beauty. Desk is very heavy. Unlike today, was made at a time where nothing was spared. I would guess the desk weighs a minimum of 300 pounds. Includes key which works for locking all drawers at once. I'm selling an original late 40's early 50's General fireproofing Co. ALLSTEEL" model 1660 desk. It's in original condition with the exception off a repaint some years ago. Long before I aquired it. The orignal material top is showing its age and has no more then normal wear. All drawers function 100% and all hardware is original. It has 4 drawers. 1file drawer with functioning divider, left and right writing perches, and 1 center pen drawer. The original"self locking" drawers still function. You must open pen drawer to open remaining drawers. All brass is intact and all markings and tags are present. The key is no longer in my possession, but are still available I am told. Antique AllSteel Equipment panel leg desk.Powder coat green paint with an Aircombe top.Same technology used in Aircraft bodies in that time.Scorch/burn proof and almost indestructible yet light as air.The top is in Great condition as are the steel panel legs.It will have a few scratches but nothing ugly.There are a couple dings in the legs and screw holes where a typewriter was attached at one time but they have not hurt it any.The desk has a center drawer that glides smoothly.This desk is not a common find.it is in Remarkable condition given it's age and it is solid.
