This bench is really unique in that when you lift the top it also inverts an 8 compartment music or note holder that the top is attached to. Then when you lower the lid the compartment goes horizontal for easy storage. The mechanism works very smoothly. This bench does show show some signs of age and wear. Overall though it is a very nice condition. Please view the pictures for details. The front left leg did start to crack a little so somebody put a few screws underneath. My local machine shop produced the heavy, square tubed metal legs for me. They were attaced with 4 1/2"x3/8 lag screws. The bench is about 107" long X 13 1/2" deep X 19" tall. It is very heavy. It’s made of hundreds of hand forged iron stringers pinned by iron and bronze round and square pins. It is decorated with hundreds of various shaped spangles. Stars and etc. Has several heavy attaching rings and eyelets for anchoring this massive bench. It is obviously very stable in spite of its age. The bench had to be the result of hundreds of hours by journeymen. Blacksmith and wood workers. Looks like early or mid 18th century. Not sure of the age but definitely very old. The cushion looks like it was made and added later and it works fine on it. I believe this piece really belongs in a museum! Pick up is best for this hugh piece.
