A rather large vintage French garlic press + nut cracker + olive/cherry stoner. Brilliant size as a styling piece. Excellent size when there's a lot of garlic to be squeezed. garlic bread springs to mind immediately. Then once that's done there are the nuts to crack and olives that need de-stoning. It measures approx. 19 cms- 7.5 inches. It has scuffs and signs from past kitchen use. Good clean and clear holes for the garlic to ooze through. Well serrated curves for holding the nuts in place. This item is a used once for a demo item THE CHINESE PITEBA COPIES ARE MADE OF STAINLESS STEEL WHICH IN MOVING FRICTION PARTS CAN BE TOXIC! THE FACT THAT THIS STEEL COMES OUT OF CHINA ADDS EVEN MORE CONCERN! There is n o stainless steel in the press. Screw press, tube, and press head in the Piteba. Stainless steel can be toxic in a machine with movement and friction since it contains chromium and nickel which are toxic to humans. Oil production of nuts and/or seeds with a screw press have different rules than other food production such as meat. Milk or juice. Nut and seed oil is anti-corrosive because it contains hardly any water. In contrast, milk contains about 87% water. In dairy production, there is no wear material from pipes or silo tanks. However, in an oil press, there is more friction and wear from machine parts. With stainless steel, ... morethe press screw will wear and release the chromium and nickel(found in stainless steel) which are toxic to humans. Therefore, the press and parts in a screw oil press should be made of hardened steel, not stainless steel. NUTS AND SEEDS ONLY. THE PITEBA DOES NOT WORK WITH OLIVES! The other presses you see on eBay are copies made in China. They contain parts that contain lead. The body of the unit is painted instead of powder coated meaning that the paint on the china copy will melt off and fill your home with chemical smoke. I know they now offer a stainless version however it is also from China. Is it really stainless? What is mixed with the stainless steel to reduce cost? The original Piteba is powder coated and is not affected by heat. You might save a buck or two buying from China but at what cost? The Piteba Manual Nut and Seed Oil Press is the original design made in Holland with quality parts. And food safty in mind. The Piteba is still made by the small family owned company that came up with the original design. Antique Nut or Poppy Seed Press (Grinder)
I am selling a working antique press/ grinder that I believe was used by my grandmother(circa early 1900. Or earlier) to either grind almonds or poppy seed. My grandmother was from Czeck, so this may have even come from there, but I see no labels or markings. A beautiful wood base with a clamp and board to anchor to a table or counter. With a ring underneath that the clamp slides into. Two roughened spools rotate the same direction pulling the nut or seed into the press. My grandmother made her own almond flower, and also crushed poppy seed all the time, so I am guessing this was used for both or one of these tasks. Fully working The base is 7"x5"x5. Top holds maybe a cup, handle is 7" long. Top grinder and funnel are about 4.5" then above the base for a total height of 9.5"
