The 106 page professionally produced and published instruction manual included with this kit is fully illustrated with almost 250 photographs plus step-by-step instructions and sequences for disassembling, cleaning, reassembling and adjusting the critical components of the lathe. South Bend Lathe Model"A" benchtop lathe. Very good condition and fully operational. Setup with 110/115V single phase motor and switch. Complete with many accessories, including 6-1/4" 3-jaw chuck, 6" 4-jaw chuck, unused 8" faceplate, new 4" faceplate, 4" driver plate, collet draw tube and spindle nose for collets( I think they are 3-C but I am not sure) I only have one collet, but these are readily available online with many listings even on Ebay. Tailstock includes a 1/2" Jacobs chuck, too. Although the max swing diameter is only 9-1/4" this is a REAL metal lathe. It is not like one of those cheesy Jet, Grizzly, or Enco 9" lathes. I know because I had one, and there is absolutely no comparison. The lathe has a 9-1/4" swing. 3-1/2 foot beed and working distance of 24" between centers. ... moreAlso, there is an old South Bend style toolpost that is included, but I would recommend installing an Aloris type toolpost with the quick-change toolholders. Restored South Bend Heavy 10"X24" Metal lathe 3 Jaw CL8187 Gunsmith 1953 Taper
Used restored ~1953 South Bend Heavy 10" metal lathe Model number CL8187A serial number 4236RKL11. Bed is 4' CTC about 26" Bore is 1 3/8" This lathe has been completely dissassembled, stripped, castings smoothed, and repainted with high quality paint. Wipers, wicking, belt, all data tags, drum switch, 110v motor are all new. All parts painted seperately, others were polished then reassembled. All gears are in good shape see photo under quick change gearbox. Extra detail in painting logos in castings. The lathe itself has some wear, the ways, chuck and tailstock shank are far from perfect, have some scratches-dents and I can feel a ridge at the top and bottom of the ways not enough to grab my fingernail. The inside of the chip pan has also been polished. This lathe includes 6" 3 jaw chuck, thread dial, taper attachment, ... morechuck wrench, tailstock wrench, forward reversing drum switch, light, and quick change gearbox. The backlash is about 1/4 turn in crossfeed and 1/8 turn in compound. One oil cap is missing and some of the polished parts have very minor discoloration. The spindle is 2 3/8" 6tpi. South Bend 9" x 30" Bench Top Lathe Model 482 XB w/ Bench
Up for your consideration is a South Bend model#482 XB with a 9" swing. 2 1/2' bed, lathe serial#41215. There is approximately 1 foot of working length between centers. The spindle bore is approximately 13/16" It has a quick change gear box, forward/reverse, and the original horizontal countershaft assembly(item in back of lathe flat belt rides on) The overall condition is good, some minor surface rust. The cross slide screw is slightly bent, but functions fine. It is missing two crank handles. It comes with a Craftsman 8" 4 jaw, 1 1/2 x 8 thread chuck, with key and original box; a Horton 7 1/2" 3 jaw model 34-C chuck(no key) two tool posts/holders; three dead centers; and a morse taper tool holder. It is mounted on a heavy table with cast iron legs. One leg has been repaired with a mending plate. The original Westinghouse ... more1/4 hp single phase 1725 rpm motor runs, but it sparks and will need some attention so I am including a Baldor 1/2 hp single phase 1725 rpm motor. The leather belt is in good condition. The v-belt is a little frayed. This is the first South Bend lathe I have seen in this size with a quick change gear box. Please ask any questions you might have. Make sure to look at the other lathe that I currently have listed. I prefer this to be picked up and I will load on your truck for free. SOUTH BEND 16" LATHE 2-3/8"-6 SPINDLE WITH BEARINGS
South Bend 16" lathe spindle with 2-3/8"6 thread. With bearings. Will need new felt pcs under bearing expanders. The takeup nut threads do not look too great but it threads on ok. There is a gouge in the spindle beyond the threads on the end. Doesnt effect use, see photo. All parts are as removed and very dirty. Will need a good cleaning. Very nice- Original 46 tooth change gear for a 9" or 10K South Bend lathe. Single keyed 9/16" bore. 2 5/8" outer diameter, 3/8" thick. Teeth are square and sharp with some small marks from shelf wear. All in very fine order, as shown.
