Tool for Cutting and Grinding Uknown Origin
I collect mineral specimens. When I purchased a local collection about thirty years ago this came along for the ride. I've had it around and have loved to pick it up and marvel at its ingenuity. Someone went to a LOT of trouble to create this double edged tool. One end is for grinding. The other for cutting. What is so nice is the way it is formed to fit in the heel and palm of your hand doing either chore for a long period of time without cutting into the skin of the user. Its as though every single finger, particularly the thumb, is well taken care of to provide maximum pressure and control. My instincts tell me it was used for corn. This is no coincidence or natural creation, it was used for the purposes mentioned above. You can read the label that is attached. Maybe it was a souvenir. Maybe it was found in the field. The small Tom Thumb, the 1/4 H.P. Model 44-011, and the 1/2 H.P. DuMore Grinder. I would think that these wheels would also be suitable for use on other small ID or OD Grinding Spindles. The bores look to be 3/8" on the small drum type, 1/2" on the cup and straight wheels, and about 3/4" on the small dish wheel. These Grinding Stones all look to be good quality stones. Suburban Tool Precision Vise V-411-S2 SineSet 11" long. 4" wide. 3" tall. The jaws are 4" wide and 1-7/16" high. Weighs about 20 lbs. As you can see from the pics. There is some rust staining on the vise. The only places where I can pick up any pitting with my fingernail is on one corner of the bottom clamping rail, and a tiny bit on the bottom(see the pics) There are also some small handling nicks on a few edges that will need to be filed, or otherwise dressed away. There may be one small pit on the fixed jaw that I can"kind of" feel with a fingernail. I don't think any of this takes away from the usefulness of the vise, but I am not a toolmaker, so I want to mention as much a detail as I can. It hard for me to be sure, but the vise really does not look like it has been used very much, with the above ... moreissues being more storage and handling related. The jaw faces. Sliding jaw bottom, and the bed are all smooth. As well, the jaw fit is quite nice, with no wiggle that I can feel, and the jaw slides from front to back with no change in feel. Hi Up for bid is a FOREDOM Series F Rotary tool with a +-3 foot flexible shaft. The chuck on the end is similar to a dremel tool, With a hole about 1/8" or so. The motor is rated at 0.5 amp and is 115 volt. The motor works great, And the shaft spins freely, But there is a slight vibration when the cable part is curved. It is ok when it is straight. I'm not sure if this is normal or if the inner shaft has a slight bend. Its turns smooth when spun by hand so the cable/shaft doesn't feel tore up. A replacement is $8, But for the amount of use I've gotten over the past 10+ years, This tool is something I can live without! Hopefully someone can put it to use. There was a foot pedal but I can't find it, So selling this exactly as shown in the pictures. Shipping $15 USPS so the cable doesn't get deformed. Thanks!
