This knife is a beauty.lots of leather. What looks to be 2 sharpening knives. I am not sure if there is anything missing. The outside of one side of the sheath is seperating width wis and on the back side you can see that age has caused it to seperate down the middle. RARE D-DAY dated hand carved US sharpening stone kill notches SKULL writing ++
Here I have an amazing piece from a soldier in WW2 who faught on D-day. This was purchased from a man who bought it directly from the vets family. Unfortunately the family did not really know much about his time in the war(he never talked about it) This piece almost without a doubt saw action on D-Day. It is hand dated"1944 June 5" the day troops were preparing to attack in Normandy. This is a personal knife sharpening stone/kit that he assembled(stone attached into a very nice wooden box with cover) It was then wrapped in OD canvas from his duffle bag. The piece has 23+ notches carved in the side for kills. All with the initials penciled in next to them(period pencil markings) The front has"US" hand carved into it. And it also has a skull/crossbones and"RIP" written in period pencil markings on the lid. On the ... moreside of the box is written all of the vets information and what unit he was in. Etc. It is hard to make out, but what I can read appears like"Less(or lester) A. Jorey 5th Infantry Corps 4th Div. Could be Artillery instead of Infantry, hard to read. The other side says" 1944 June 5" and what appears to be" Beach B. 3rd Wave" in pencil There are other names/numbers/units written all over the box. Some are hard to make out. Inside the lid is the owner's signature in ink as well as"Thanks for the the ride Mack! I owe u! The stone is factory stamped"Universal Wheel Abrasive Corps" It approximately measures 11.5 by 3.5 by 2 and is wrapped in it's originally canvas piece This is truly a piece of American and World history.
