Watch/Clockmakers Polishing Device-Early Design Style
The intended purpose of this tool is not clear but best guess is. It held something for polishing or burnishing between the two pointed steel rods. The square section on the bottom was held in the bench vise and the object being worked on rotated between the upper arched section. The diameter of the circular base is 3-1/4in and overall length or height with both rods in place is 8-3/4in. The elegant design of this brass tool is typical of that found on 18th century objects. There are no identifying markings, The two steel rods have pointed ends at the brass thumb screws so they could have been held between fixed uprights and rotated. A rare and interesting tool from a fairly large collection of pocket watch and clock maker tools. More to follow.

Up for auction is a vintage Poly buffing grinding& polishing arbor. It is made in Monrovia Cal. The Arbor is only 11 3/4' long from end of threaded rod to the other end of the threaded rod. The Arbor stands 6' tall. It is 4' to the center of the threaded rod arbor. It is in good used condition. The arbor spins fine. sorry no motor) The arbor. When I found it was a bit rusty on the threaded rod and nuts and washers. I cleaned them off easily. see pictures 12 for before cleaning) Inside where the pully wheels are is rust free. I don't know exactly what this tool does so I apologize if my description is incorrect. I was told it was for polishing marble. Unit is used with light wear. Tested and working well. It has six speeds. Unit does not have any identifying marks except for a'Made in the USA' sticker. It appears to be missing something to connect the pad. There is a circular mount with three holes.
