Nikon 28mm f3.5 Nikkor-H Non-Ai "F-type" Manual Focus Prime Lens
If the Nikkor 28mm f2.8ai-s didn’t exist this lens would be a no-brainer. It is only against the near perfection of the f2.8 that this lens seems to fall short. But the f2.8 is routinely called the finest lens at 28mm-period. The truth is that the difference between these two very-closely related lenses exists…but more to the measurement of instruments than to the eyes of shooters. It would be difficult for the average person to view side-by-side images taken by these lenses and pick the 2.8 over the 3.5. The 2.8 was a driven effort over many years by Nikon engineers to refine the 3.5 to the point of near perfection. And history shows that they achieved their goal. In reality, where the 2.8 does noticeably step away from the 3.5 is in low-light situations. If you shoot indoors or at night, and need as little distortion as possible, the 2.8 ... moreis definitely worth three times the cost of the 3.5. If, however, you just need an excellent, superbly built lens for mostly daytime shooting, then get a f3.5 and put the extra money in your pocket. Having the"rabbit ears" but being non-ai, it will only meter on the Nikon F; F2; EL; EL-W; and Nikkormats up to the FT2. This lens is in just nice enough condition to serve as the lens for your pristine F2 sitting in your showcase. Only a handful of the Digital Nikon SLRs have the capability of metering"ai" manual lenses anyway, so one will have to use the LCD screen as your"instant review" light meter. Non-ai fit is not an issue with the"motorless" D40; D40x; D60; D3000; D3100; D3200; D5000; and D5100.and they won't meter"ai' lenses anyway.so this lens will provide a handy long wide/short normal prime for these bodies. This is a mid-model 28mm f3.5. This example was manufactured in 1972. It has an equivalent focal length of 42mm on a“DX” format Nikon or Fuji DSLR.
