Spi Magnetic Base,Tesatast Indicator & Universal Dovetail Attachment
I retired about 10 years ago. I had a small machine shop. Just me. No employees. The one thing I used as much as anything else if not more was an indicator and magnetic base. This was by far my first choice over several I had. I just have no use for it anymore. Don't be fooled by thinking because it's used and a little scuffed up it's just another typical used mag base. The name has worn off but it's an Spi base. The magnet is strong. The switch on the base works easily and smoothly to engage or disengage the magnet. Doesn't hang-up or feel"gritty" like some bases I've owned. I've used epoxy to set the main shaft to the base. It will not come loose in the middle of a set-up causing your indicator to swing down. Hit something and break the carbide tip off. I drilled, tapped and put a washer on the bottom ... moreof the fine adjustment arm so it won't come out in the middle of a set-up causing you to drop it and break the carbide tip off your indicator. The fine adjustment works great. Both the fittings connecting one arm to the other move freely and easiyl when loosened. I've used indicators you had to work back and forth to move their position on the shaft. As you can see I replaced the one fitting with one I made out of aluminum. It may not be pretty but it works great and I doubt will ever break. The last arm has a universal dovetail attachment which allows you to position the indicator in almost any position. It's a quality piece that works great. I've also owned a couple that were pieces of crap. The ball wasn't truly round and it would either bind up or loosen up depending on wich way you were moving it. The indicator. A Tesatast is in good working condition. It has an.080" diameter carbide tip. I always preferred how the Tesatast indicators move clockwise on a high spot and counter-clockwise over a low spot regardless of which side of the tip you are using.
