LOT of 3 Antique Bausch & Lomb Folding Brass Loupe -Magnifying Glass Sight Saver
Description: This lot contains 3 vintage Baush& Lomb folding pocket magnifiers/loupes. These magnifiers are made out of brass and all of them still have 99% of the original finish fully intact. Each magnifier also comes with its original leather pouch. I have noticed that these magnifiers begin to develop a bluish-colored tarnishing when they are stored in the leather pouches for an extended period of time so I would advise against doing so. I cleaned the tarnishing off the magnifiers so you will receive them in the condition pictured. There does appear to some slight hazing between the lenses on the magnifiers but this is not noticeable once they are in use and I believe the lenses come out if you ever wanted to clean them. One of the leather pouches also has some writing on the inside flap that has been scribbled out. I have seen other ... moreexamples of these magnifiers bring a lot being sold individually and their original finish was mostly worn off. These magnifiers were purchased from an estate of a longtime collector of antique small scientific instruments. WWII Glass Eye German Ocularists Medical Prothesis - Unusual Blue Iris - sight
Not new. But not used. Intriguing Vintage WWII German Medical Prosthetic Hand-blown Glass Eye with Unusual Blue Iris. I acquired this piece. Among a few others about 5 or 6 years ago from a WWII Militaria collector, and had planned to use them in an art installation, yet they have remained tucked away in storage since- as is true for many perspective projects. This piece is in stellar condition with an opening in the center rather than an iris and pupil. Very different from the others I am selling; I believe these are for patients who may have remaining sight. hence the pupil opening] yet have sustained damage to the eye: sclera and/or iris. The glass piece is beautifully designed and actually hollow between the thin glass outer walls. So as to be lighter when resting in the eye socket. These specimens have clearly been created by an extremely ... moreskilled glassblower. These old authentic glass eyes are becoming exceedingly scarce and are a bit fragile. I have not seen many during years of collecting. You can use google for more information on these prosthesis and their fabrication. It's very interesting. Some other later examples. Which am also listing, are made with a kind of high[optical] quality acrylic called Methacrylate resin, with just the iris in glass, or most commonly created uniformly with this resin. The prosthetic pictured for auction today is all glass, as is another early piece which I have listed which includes a very impressive hand blown glass iris, pupil and fine veins in the sclera. This is an authentic WW2 collectors item and not sold for prosthetic purposes. Each eye would have have been painstakingly selected from a cabinet of hundreds to suit the exact dimensions of the patients eye- or as with Methacrylate resin. Created with proportions specific to the patient. Vintage Lined Lens w/ Brass Housing An unusual vintage lens. This metal housing appears to have two glass lenses within.one of which has black lines etched into the front. The lines would seem to suggest that this lens is part of a sight or rangefinder of some sort? The metal housing is made of black painted brass. The black coloring is still strong. But the brass underneath can be seen in a few places where it is slightly worn from age and handling. The piece measures 2 3/8" in diameter(from edge of metal housing to edge of metal housing) The lenses are in good condition.although the back lens(without the etched lines) does have a very small flea-bite sized chip near the edge.
